EPRI is seeking a full time employee with a background in science, technology, engineering, and analytical exposure to wind energy. This position will support EPRI’s Renewable Generation team in analyzing wind farm performance and maintenance data from large-scale renewable energy facilities and evaluating state-of-the-art data analytics and reliability engineering.

Additional activities may include documentation, data visualization, presentations to EPRI funding members and the public, and techno-economic evaluations of new renewable energy technologies. The employee will have the opportunity to expand knowledge of the power and energy industry directly from subject matter experts in the Renewable Power Generation R&D team and EPRI at large.

General responsibilities and opportunities include:

  • Develop new, experimental, and innovative data analysis techniques that lead to actions for improved reliability, production, and cost-effectiveness of wind energy
  • Review and analyze wind turbine data, prioritize improvement opportunities, and provide guidance to wind farm owners
  • Lead and shape wind power R&D projects towards future potential value and deliver results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead discussions with stakeholders to advise selection and scope of research to address near-term and long-term industry needs
  • Interface with members/clients at multiple utilities and coordinate data transfer from numerous sources and structures into EPRI databases for analysis
  • Plan, design, execute, and control complex project work and resources to meet member/client objectives

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • 8-10 years of engineering experience or comparable work/educational experience.
  • Ability to recognize strategic issues and build collaborative projects.
  • Required limited supervision and guidance
  • Responsible for the success of individual projects
  • Works closely with members, contractors, staff to manage projects
  • Experience in successful proposal preparation, and marketing activities.
  • Manages multiple projects
  • Responsible for project budgets, schedules, deliverables, and technology transfer
  • Shows maturity of technical expertise and assumes responsibility for highly specialized technical objectives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Individual contributor
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Increasing technical depth/breadth to become a subject matter expert

Ideal candidate may have:

  • Experience with publicly funded R&D projects and funding proposals
  • Published research results in journals or other publications
  • Advanced degree in engineering or related analytical field
  • experience with SQL, OSIsoft or other operational database constructs and queries
  • Experience with large-scale wind plants and component-level technology
  • Experience with statistical data analysis and/or machine learning including formatting, filtering, parsing, and analyzing large data sets from disparate sources with with Matlab, Python, R, or other high-level languages
  • Experience applying reliability and data analytics techniques to plant performance and/or maintenance data
