We are seeking a hardworking Lead Cybersecurity Systems Engineer (job title: R&D S&E, Systems Engineering) to join the W80-4 System Team! In this role, you will lead cyber digital assurance development activities, including working with cybersecurity and digital assurance subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop a cyber digital assurance plan. This role ensures alignment and coordination with Nuclear Safety and Use Control themes, and engaging NNSA and the AF to develop plans that are consistent with guidance and customer requirements. You must have a multidisciplinary perspective with an innate curiosity to learn outside of your existing knowledge base. Having the capability to communicate optimally is a critical element for this position due to the collaborative nature of the role. On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Lead the effort to develop a cyber digital assurance plan for the W80-4 System.
+ Coordinate with cybersecurity SMEs to understand risks, potential requirements, and adjudicate recommendations for system implementation.
+ Work with digital component Weapon Systems Engineers (WSEs) to ensure successful product implementation for requirements and standard methodologies.
+ Lead the cyber digital assurance portion of system design reviews, including the System Baseline Design Review (BDR), Final Design Review (FDR), and joint SNL/LLNL Nuclear Safety reviews
+ Represent Systems during customer and management interactions with the AF, NNSA, and Chief Engineer for Nuclear Weapons
+ Coordinate with the Nuclear Safety System Lead, Use Control System Lead, Surety Integration Lead, and Nuclear Enterprise Assurance Lead to understand how the cyber digital assurance plan can augment and support requirements from these areas.
+ Engage with the Air Force and represent Systems in conversations on digital assurance requirements for the program including WR, JTA, and test assets.
+ Prepare presentations and other supporting documentation needed for technical reviews.
+ Represent the program while collaborating regularly with partners at Sandia, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), production agencies throughout the NNSA nuclear security enterprise, and Department of Defense organizations.


+ Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline plus two or more years of related experience; or Masters degree in relevant field; or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent engineering and scientific experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform independent research and development.
+ Academic or job experiences in areas such as: engineering design, qualification, production, requirements development, or related modeling/simulation projects
+ Ability to travel up to 25%.
+ Active DOE Q security clearance or equivalent, such as DoD Top Secret


+ Ability to thrive in a high-energy, collaborative, team-focused environment
+ Knowledge of nuclear weapon design, analysis and testing for past and current systems
+ Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and requirements
+ Experience designing digital systems
+ Experience working on a nuclear weapon modernization program or a stockpile system
+ Experience with development of specifications for components and systems
+ Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling

Department Description:

The various Systems Engineering Departments are part of the Sandia/California Weapon Systems Engineering Center which is responsible for assuring the safety, reliability and security of U.S. nuclear weapons enabling the defense of our nation through our nuclear strategic deterrent. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
