Description:

The Vice President of Total Rewards is responsible for the strategy and execution of Discover's Executive Compensations, Broad Based Compensation, and Employee Benefits programs. This executive will partner with the CHRO, CEO, and other HR and business leaders to advance our vision and deliver our Total Rewards strategy. Key activities and areas of influence include design and execution of employee incentives and benefit offerings, continuous evaluation of executive and other incentive compensation programs, design and cost management of Health & Welfare programs, overall management of our outsource providers, and the communication of all Total Rewards messaging.

Responsibilities:

  • Continuously develop, enhance and manage the Company's Total Rewards Strategy to attract, retain and reward talent
  • Navigate and evolve the evolution in pay philosophy
  • Develop and implement enterprise compensation programs, practices, processes, and systems; includes company-wide philosophy and guiding principles for pay delivery, job evaluation and market intelligence, salary administration, and sales compensation for a small contingent in our Payments business
  • Provide thought leadership to Discover's job architecture strategy, flexible salary structures, and shifts in incentive compensation structures
  • Evolve the benefits portfolio to maximize utility for all levels and segments of employees; includes evaluating opportunities to push the envelope for more progressive retirement, education, health and profit sharing benefit programs
  • Ensure the effectiveness of employee benefit programs, policies and guidelines and recommend and implement plan revisions and offerings
  • Ensure execution and appropriate measures of our outsource solutions
  • Prepare all Board of Director Compensation Committee meeting materials, proxy and other compensation related filings, manage recordkeeping and other compliance requirements

Key relationships:

  • Serve as a senior leader of the HR Leadership Team and the Total Rewards organization to drive strategies, objectives and processes
  • Provide leadership and counsel to the Chief Human Resource officer and CEO on compensation and benefits strategies to support business plan objectives
  • Build and maintain a healthy partnership with leaders in Law, Compliance, and other relevant departments
  • Partner with the Board Compensation & Leadership Development Committee and their independent consultant

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Higher education preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience within HR specific to total rewards, compensation or benefits
  • Outstanding knowledge of benefits, base and variable pay programs, executive compensation, and a thorough knowledge of securities regulations and their impact on the organizations compensation policy and practice
  • Superior ability to communicate, influence, persuade, gain the confidence of and advise senior management on sensitive issues related to both benefits and compensation
  • Ability to lead an effective team, team oriented and savvy to navigate a complex organization
  • Ability to build robust processes and to execute them effectively
  • Develop strong customer and executive relationships
  • The successful person will be able to handle multiple projects at any given time
