The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering (MABE) at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applicants for at least one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. Responsibilities include teaching engineering courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, conducting research in engineering, developing externally funded research programs, and producing archival publications in leading scholarly journals. It is expected that the candidate will develop graduate courses in her/his area of research to complement the departmental growth. A Ph.D. is required, at time of the appointment, in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or a related field of engineering. Primary consideration will be given to those with capabilities and interests in various aspects of experimental thermal sciences. The department is actively growing its thermal science core. Desirable research areas include: optical non-intrusive techniques, acoustical non-intrusive techniques, advanced intrusive methods, fast thermal or pressure sensitive paints or other high fidelity novel experimental methods. Capabilities in advanced data reduction methods are also desirable. However, all outstanding candidates possessing a strong background in fundamental science and engineering relevant to aerospace and/or mechanical engineering will be considered as at least one position is anticipated. The College of Engineering is undergoing a period of substantial growth in both physical infrastructure and research expenditures as it seeks to become a Top-25 ranked Public Institution. The College presently has seven departments with 186 faculty, 3,501 undergraduates and 1,109 graduate students. The Department currently has 39 tenure track faculty and enrolls some 1387 undergraduate and 197 graduate students. Research expenditures in the department are currently at $12M per year. Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist at UTK and the surrounding region including University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI), Oak Ridge National Lab, AEDC, AMDEC, and NASA-Marshall. The anticipated start date of the new position is August 1, 2019. Salary is commensurate with the position and experience of the applicant.
