The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida invites applications and nominations for multiple tenure-track faculty positions. Since its founding in 2003, the Department has undergone remarkable growth in size and has gained national recognition for its focus on experiential learning and its innovative disciplinary tracks in high-performance vehicles, robotics, energy, and biomedical engineering. Candidates with interest and focus on robotics & autonomous systems or biomedical systems are encouraged to apply.


The College of Engineering at Daytona Beach is organized in five departments, enrolls over 2100 undergraduate students and over 300 graduate (Masters and PhD) students served by over 100 full-time faculty members. Mechanical Engineering is the second largest department and the fastest growing program on campus with over 350 undergraduate students and over 50 graduate (MS and PhD) students served by 17 full-time faculty members. The Department places large emphasis on hands-on learning and provides ample opportunities for students to be involved in a variety of collegiate competitions including  EcoCAR, EPA P3, AUVSI, and Formula SAE. The focus research areas includes, but are not limited to, robotics & autonomous systems, automotive engineering, computational fluid dynamics, energy systems, biomechanics, and manufacturing. In addition to the facilities and labs in the Lehman Engineering and Technology Center, a new 50,000 square-foot Engineering Center, the John Mica Engineering and Aerospace Innovation Complex (MicaPlex), was recently completed with world-class facilities such as the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Laboratory, which focuses on unmanned system design, perception and autonomy, and includes a motion capture system, indoor flight area, range of sensing technologies and unmanned surface, underwater, ground and aerial systems. A new Cray supercomputer has recently been acquired and a new world class subsonic research wind tunnel has recently been commissioned. 


Position Requirements

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, an interest to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and an ability to contribute to the research thrust of the Department. Industrial and/or prior academic experience, especially related to robotics, autonomy, or biomedical engineering will strengthen a candidate’s credentials.
