Team Lead, R&D Science and Engineering

Oversees a team of engineers of various disciplines \(mechanical, chemical, materials science & electrical\) to identify, develop, deliver, assure, and sustain a commercial supply base for weapon components, materials, sub\-assemblies\. Promotes excellence by managing and coordinating deliverables and overall team goals to ensures that customer needs are met\. The team lead will need to engage S&T, design, product, and process engineers to manage problem solving efforts\. The team lead will also be responsible for overseeing \(or participating in\) the application of engineering methods used within scientific and engineering disciplines to develop or demonstrate designs, products, processes, or systems\. The team lead will contribute to the acquisition and development of staff resources and capabilities as well as resources to support the current and future projects\. The team lead works closely with the 2569 manager to maintain the integrated 2569/2561 team, plan for the future and maintain the present level of performance of the organization\. The team lead will engage with the 2560 management, the 2500 management and various supply chain organizations as requested by the manager\.


+ Bachelors degree in relevant science, technology, engineering or mathematics \(STEM\) discipline plus five or more years of relevant experience, or equivalent STEM experience and/or education/achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job


+ Prior experience as a Team Lead
+ Demonstrated leadership and/or project management skills
+ Experience working in a manufacturing environment
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills, and customer service skills
+ Demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse team environments to produce successful outcomes
+ Demonstrated understanding and application of Lean Six Sigma concepts, methods, and in the application of the tools toward continuous improvement
+ Experience working with DOD, DOE, or other highly regulated manufacturing operation
+ Familiar with industry standard quality management systems \(AS9100, ISO9000,
+ NAP24\)
+ Experience with product realization

Department Description:

Purchased Product Value Stream \(Org\. 2569\) is a dynamic highly integrated team that is responsible for product engineering and materials planning for nuclear weapons design, development and production activities\. We provide technical leadership in the various engineering disciplines \(mechanical, chemical, materials science & electrical\) to identify, develop, deliver, assure, and sustain a commercial supply base for weapon components, materials, sub\-assemblies and custom tooling\. We deliver innovative solutions for nuclear weapon part procurement in the design, development, and production phases\. We anticipate and manage risk within the nuclear weapons supply chain; researching alternate materials, defining and developing test/evaluation methodologies, developing design of experiments, identifying and developing supplier capabilities and leading qualification activities\. We provide materials planning expertise; utilizing industry standard materials planning processes and tools to initiate the procurement phase and monitor the supply chain to meet product realization schedules\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
