Are you passionate about your work and dream of utilizing state-of-the-art facilities to explore solutions? The Tailored Operational Support Group (5970) designs, delivers and supports operational systems for Strategic Partnership Program/Intelligence Partnership Program sponsors. These systems may follow traditional development cycles based on standard methodologies or follow highly accelerated efforts to meet an urgent need. In support of this mission we are looking for a strong Systems Engineer to join 5970. This person may support systems engineering efforts, help pursue innovation efforts to broaden the teams portfolio, engage with new sponsors in program development, and grow in program understanding to eventually become a technical project lead.

The selected applicant will employ a systems-level approach to plan and execute development of operational requirements. They will apply coordinated technical judgment to balance development activities and operational use. This person will partner with personnel from Departments 5973, 5974, 5977 and 5979 along with other matrixed organizations to seek the full system lifecycle of a technical project: concept, design, manufacturing, qualification testing, sponsor training, delivery and post-delivery support.

The systems engineer we're looking for will lead the effort to acquire the necessary information for understanding the whole problem, exploring it from all angles and ensuring the teams have clear, verifiable requirements to pursue the most appropriate solutions.

On any given day the selected candidate may be called upon to:

+ Collaborate with the customer to elicit and define system requirements
+ Work with the mission assurance team to ensure increased rigor and systems engineering across the project.
+ Work with the business team to ensure project is operating within budget, on schedule, and managing project risks
+ Ensure sophisticated OPSEC and security requirements are addressed with design teams and partners
+ Engage laboratory peers in NM to increase existing operational capabilities
+ Recommend project opportunities and risks to management and senior management
+ Communicate/negotiate requirements with the design team and sponsors
+ Validate the system against requirements by reviewing the design and qualification artifacts
+ Verify the final system meets sponsor requirements and ensure records exist to support as-designed and as-built configurations, in coordination with the information manager and hardware management lead
+ Initiate and execute trade studies with SMEs and chief engineer support
+ Lead design and gate review preparation activities
+ Support other technical leads and chief engineer as needed as part of onboarding
+ Learn about the program and team in order to eventually become responsible for the successful execution of a project as part of a multi-million-dollar sensor program
+ Develop proposals to pursue innovation opportunities and broaden critical opportunities
+ This position requires periodic travel

Note: To be considered for this position, all candidates must submit a current resume.

Required:

+ You possess a Bachelors and Advanced (Masters or PhD) degree in relevant science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field (i.e., Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Systems Engineering) OR a Bachelors in STEM and four years of relevant experience
+ You have a strong, demonstrated foundation in systems engineering and program management (e.g., your experience includes two or more years experience as a Systems Engineer and/or Project Lead for technical projects)
+ You have a current DOE Q clearance and ability to satisfy SCI access which may require a polygraph

Desired:

Ideally, your background would also include:

+ Project leadership experience in Strategic Partnering Program (SPP) and Strategic Partnering Intelligence Program (SIPP) projects
+ Proven ability to collaborate with external government customers and communicate effectively on both technical and programmatic topics
+ Demonstrated experience building successful, multidisciplinary teams
+ Demonstrated use and application of systems engineering principles throughout the full systems engineering life cycle
+ Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to exercise systems thinking in a program/project setting in order to apply a holistic approach of considering the big picture and broadening the perspective for analyzing a problem and identifying solutions
+ Familiarity with the design, development and qualification of radiation sensing, imaging or other sensing technologies (or other similar technically complex system)
+ Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask with competing priorities and changing and sometimes ambiguous environments
+ Excellent communication skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling, strong writing skills, and strong interpersonal skills
+ Demonstrated ability to implement high-quality standards while establishing and maintaining effective and positive relationships with internal and external partners at all experience and authority levels
+ Demonstrated experience in proposal writing and innovative efforts
+ Active SCI clearance
