Department Description:

We have researched and developed new monitoring systems and technologies for over half a century. Building on that legacy, today we support national security missions involving nuclear proliferation detection, treaty monitoring, arms control, and various needs within the national security communities.

We are responsible for management of next-generation US Nuclear Detonation (NUDET) Detection System (USNDS) payloads that support the United States’ space-based capability to monitor the earth’s atmosphere and surrounding space for nuclear events. The department serves as the primary technical interface and System Integrator to the USNDS community for the next generation GBD payload. The department works with the USNDS partners to define future payload performance and operational requirements, and then designs, produces, and integrates GBD payloads to support the NNSA in their role as acquisition agent for government-furnished payloads.
