We are seeking a creative and motivated Systems and Data Researcher and Analyst (job title: R&D S&E, Systems Research and Analysis) to join our multi-disciplinary team in conducting technical outreach, formulating and executing research studies, and designing and developing science-driven applications for decision makers. On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Collaborate with and/or lead multi-disciplinary teams
+ Brainstorm new approaches to difficult problems with subject matter experts across different scientific domains
+ Engage with internal and external sponsors to identify new opportunities, write proposals, and communicate techniques (e.g. data management, modeling approaches, etc.) and results to customers
+ Apply and combine innovative techniques from multiple fields of science to discover, develop and formulate novel models, algorithms, and applications of complex systems
+ Analyze and integrate information from multiple sources to develop applications to inform stakeholder decisions
+ Perform analyses and develop recommendations for decision makers
+ Publish work results in technical journals, technical reports, and briefings

Required:

+ Bachelors degree in a relevant technical discipline (such as science, engineering, math, or economics) and Masters degree in Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or other relevant discipline plus one or more years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Experience with stakeholder outreach, proposal writing and technical leadership
+ Experience with computer programming languages such as Java, Python, Matlab, Tableau, Stata, R, and C++
+ Experience with research studies and/or developing models, simulations, and applications for improved resilience in complex systems
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security clearance

Desired:

+ Ph.D. in Applied Math, Economics, Environmental Engineering or other relevant discipline
+ Experience with benefit cost analysis, data science and econometrics, resilience of complex systems, financial risk analysis, and/or market research and analysis
+ Excellent communication skills and ability to develop technical ideas and results and present them in oral and written form
+ Experience developing and using microeconomic models, regional economic models, and/or ESRI products
+ Subject matter expertise in economics, power systems, statistics, infrastructure systems, sociology, and/or human behavior
+ Experience with modern software development and systems analysis and related methodologies, practices, and/or tools
+ Experience working successfully with researchers, analysts, and software engineers
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE SCI security clearance

Department Description:

The Complex Systems for National Security Group (Group 8720 in Albuquerque, New Mexico) researches and applies mathematical, computational science, and systems engineering approaches to analyze, predict and influence the behavior of complex, highly interdependent systems critical to our nations security. We provide capabilities motivated by the challenge of understanding, quantifying, and controlling the resilience of key complex systems critical to the laboratories National Security mission. The approaches and capabilities we provide are used to address individual system-level, enterprise-level, regional-level, national-level, and global challenges facing a diverse set of national security partners. We also conduct work and advance capabilities in the areas of complex systems resilience and quantitative metrics development t, risk analysis, economic analysis, and data acquisition and analysis.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
