Student Employee – Synchrophasor Applications & Renewables Modeling

Job Summary and Description:

  • The student will support the EPRI team by conducting power system studies and modeling using electromagnetic transients simulation tools, electromechanical dynamics simulation tools and system protection analysis tools. Model development for real-time digital simulators (RTDS and/or OpalRT) might be also conducted.


Additional Job Information:



  • Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering required
  • 2 years of PhD studies (preferred)


Ideal Candidate:

  • Electrical engineering PhD student with emphasis on power systems
  • Strong experience with electromechanical dynamics simulation tools (preferably PSS/E and PSLF)
  • Strong experience with wind/solar modeling and simulation projects
  • Strong experience with electromagnetic transients simulation tools (preferably EMTP-RV and PSCAD)
  • Experience with Synchrophasor technology and applications
  • Experience with real-time digital simulators (RTDS and/or OpalRT) will be considered a plus
  • Experience with system protection analysis simulation tools (preferably CAPE and ASPEN)
  • Strong technical writing skills  
  • Programming languages (preferably Python and Matlab)
