you want to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues for nation's security? If so, you could be the operational or applied meteorologist we are seeking to join Sandia National Labs Meteorology Program.

The customer-focused meteorologist will provide decision-support services, perform data analyses, and oversee the numerous web-based products with which the Meteorology Program serves both the labs and Kirtland AFB. The meteorologist will share responsibility with the program lead for a nine-tower meteorological network, ensuring real-time data is accessible for on-site operations and emergency response, with similar duties for a large network of potential gradient and lightning alarms. The meteorologist will be expected to learn about the local and regional environment as to professionally provide short and long-term planning forecasts for Sandia partners.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Configure and run atmospheric models, prepare technical work documents, and manage computational hardware and software resources used by the program.
+ Interact with partners as a subject-matter expert or technical liaison.

Occasional fieldwork will be needed to diagnose and troubleshoot issues as well as to meet with partners, so an ability to work with simple hand tools in various weather condition is preferred.


+ A bachelor's degree in degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Earth and Planetary Sciences, or similar discipline, plus two years experience; or master's degree in degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Earth and Planetary Sciences, or similar discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience (10 or more years of meteorological experience without a degree to qualify).
+ Experience with meteorological instrumentation, dataloggers, and/or data acquisition systems.
+ Familiarity with relational databases for data storage, processing and analyses.
+ Familiar with readily available numerical weather prediction products and some level of forecasting experience
+ Experience with at least one scientific programming language such as Python
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.


+ Demonstrated experience with SQL, PHP, or HTML languages.
+ Familiarity with Campbell Scientific hardware and/or software products.
+ A self-motivated individual who can work effectively by themselves or in a group.
+ A passion for problem-solving and constantly improving how things are done.
+ Ability to work outdoors in the variety of New Mexico weather conditions.
+ Possession of a valid U.S Drivers License.
+ Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to provide time-sensitive solutions and analyses.

Security Clearance:
