Basic Function

As the company’s foremost expert in an assigned discipline, provide the highest level technical and professional engineering assistance, guidance, and training in the development of new processes, equipment, or techniques, facility designs, and solutions of unusual operating and maintenance problems.  Originate and develop new concepts of process and equipment design, application, and operation. Participate in field studies, start-up operations, industrial engineering surveys, and cost estimating projects.  Represent the Company in industry or technical society joint efforts to promote safety and the public welfare through improved designs and specifications. Also perform "Value Engineering" studies to determine economic feasibilities of various alternatives to technical solutions of problems and undertakes special assignment requiring extensive technical experience and discretion when dealing with outside organizations. Participate as a technical expert or arbitrator in Contract disputes. Undertake special assignments requiring extensive technical experience and discretion when dealing with outside organizations. In addition, engineer new elements for Upstream applications.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and support members of the Sensors Development Team at Houston Research Center (HRC)
  • Act as Company's foremost consultant and as Senior Consultant in Company dealings with of ASC and Saudi Aramco senior management, U.S. companies, universities and government agencies on matters relating to area of expertise
  • Provide capital and operations program leadership by conceiving, designing and carrying out major engineering studies to resolve complex technical problems, increase revenue, optimize processes, protect the environment, or improve safety
  • Analyze special assignments pertaining to highly complex and unusual engineering problems, determine course of action, schedule work assignments required to provide a fully developed plan and follow through to a satisfactory conclusion
  • Evaluate and introduce best practices and emerging technologies from all over the world to help the Company achieve Best in Class positions in the oil business; evaluate major long-term trends in area of expertise and serves as a major conduit of technology transfer
  • Develop potentially patentable new equipment and processes for use in area of expertise; develop ideas for major technical studies or projects to be carried out by less senior specialists
  • Key contributor on taskforce investigations to investigate major incidents or solve specific problems
  • Provide engineering leadership and counsel others assigned (if any); act as a professional mentor to less senior specialists; transfer implicit knowledge to specialists and engineers in area of specialty
  • Conduct economic studies and cost analyses of particular importance in area of specialty; conduct field inspections and make recommendations for changes in facilities or operations
  • Promote a learning environment and implements self-development to maintain and improve expert status in highly specialized technical and general engineering fields
  • Conduct technical presentations and write papers for peer-reviewed journals on engineering studies and projects; may be on peer review committees for major journals and international conferences
  • Actively participate in work of technical societies, and participate on specialized committees within appropriate groups

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • B.S. in Engineering or equivalent field; M.S. or PhD in Engineering or other advanced professional engineering degree is highly desirable
  • Twenty (20) years’ experience including at least ten (10) years as a specialist with full responsibility for major technical work in a particular field of engineering or advance technical field; must clearly be recognized (internally and externally) as an outstanding expert in the general field of engineering as well as able to tactfully guide, persuade, and negotiate others towards specific recommendations; must appreciate and respect different viewpoints and willing to work toward optimum solutions so long as basic principles are not compromised
  • Experienced in development of new sensing concepts for upstream tools
  • Maintain a high level of industry recognition through activities on committees of professional societies and industrial organizations such as ASME, ASTM, API, SPE, or others; typically, candidate will have acquired additional professional study and training in various associated fields over the years and mostly published significant papers in technical journals
  • Expert knowledge of Saudi Aramco organization, policies, practices, procedures, and precedents
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined; must have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills and be willing to transfer implicit knowledge to specialists and engineers in area of specialty; must possess good human relations skills, problem-solving skills and be able to work with people under stressful circumstances
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
