Software Systems Engineer (Experienced)

We are seeking an outstanding software systems engineer to work with the data management and analysis capabilities of large, mission\-critical data sets associated with remote sensing systems\. The data management professional will work in a team environment to develop software systems to enable overall mission capabilities which includes the data management systems\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Design, implement, test and optimize data structures and data sets associated with existing and future systems, as well as data mining and data fusion approaches for extracting key events in near real\-time
+ Work with Oracle stored procedures and queries, track flows through databases, perform integration activities, and support delivery and deployment
+ Identify and implement solutions to data related issues with currently fielded systems\.
+ Working with the team, participate in the design and implementation of application software to enable the data exploitation capabilities, as well as user interface software that enables mission specialists to interact directly with the underlying data
+ Develop advanced data management concepts for future systems


+ Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline; or at least 15 years of experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job\.
+ Experience with data management and analysis approaches for large data sets relevant to fielded sensing systems in mission critical applications with an emphasis on real\-time data processing\.
+ Experience with Oracle database systems and PL/SQL
+ Working knowledge / experience with object\-oriented software development and Linux/Unix environments\.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a required US DOE security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.


+ Experience with relational database management systems \(RDBMSs\), Structured Query Language \(SQL\), and database design and development\.
+ Experience/Education is a subset of the following: software engineering, hardware and software architecture, distributed system design, HCI, software environments and methodologies \(Java, C\+\+, C, Python, UNIX, Linux, CORBA, UML\), software and data modeling, software testing\.
+ Experience with Agile software development methodologies\.
+ Ability to formulate and champion future looking concepts in the data management technology area\.
+ Experience with relevant application and mission domains \(ground systems/data centers/operations centers, remote sensing, sensor technologies, proliferation detection, monitoring and surveillance\)\.
+ Experience with large, complex scientific and technical systems development\.
+ Strong teamwork skills and effective interpersonal and communication skills\.
+ An active DOE Q and/or SCI clearance\.
+ Ability to support occasional travel

Department Description:

Department 6328 is part of the Decision Support Systems \(DSS\) Business Area \(Org\. 6320\), which develops innovative unique\-in\-class tasking, collection, processing, exploitation, and dissemination systems for real\-time national security missions\. Working in collaboration with the Advanced Systems Program Office \(ASPO\) in 6330, we have a robust RD&E portfolio\. This portfolio supports our design, development, deployment, and continuous improvement of large networked computing systems for detecting, tracking, classifying targets of interest, and expanding into new areas or exploring new methods\. Department 6328 focuses on the exploitation and dissemination aspects of satellite ground systems and conducts research and development activities associated with the management, dissemination and mining of the large, mission critical data products, as well as user interface technologies to effectively communicate system information to system operators\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance to start\.

Position requires an active Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e\.g\., DOD, to be considered for this position\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
