Job Title: Software Engineer / Scientist III - Cyber Security

 

Location: Charlotte, NC

 

Job Summary and Description:

Performs advanced engineering/scientific analysis with minimal direction and supervision. Beginning to demonstrate creativity and ingenuity in providing technical solutions. Works directly with EPRI staff and high interaction with members and industry.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead/participate in technical R&D projects focusing on cyber security metrics, cyber risk assessment, cyber security compliance management or cyber security data analytics
  • Effectively communicate the purpose, progress, technical contents and value of research projects clearly and accurately both in written and spoken format
  • Work in a team effectively, support other team members in achieving common goals, promote collaboration with other EPRI programs, sectors or external partners
  • Lead/participate in technical R&D projects focusing on cyber security of systems supporting Power Transmission and Distribution, SCADA, Smart Grid and other cyber-physical systems
  • Identify new areas of research that will help members to enhance cyber security in power delivery systems
  • Create a project proposal, identify necessary resources and solicit support through the appropriate channel
  • Conduct technical searches and analyze information in support of the project team
  • Conduct independent research and begin to manage small, less complex projects
  • Provide technical advice and counsel to other professionals within EPRI
  • Assist Project/Program managers in assessing customer needs, formulating technical approaches, preparing proposals, technical publications/papers and making presentations
  • Review progress and evaluate results. Makes changes in methods, design or equipment where necessary
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment

 

Additional Job Information:

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • 4-5 years of engineering experience or comparable work/educational experience required
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Required some supervision and guidance to recognize strategic issues and build collaborative projects
  • Responsible for the success of individual projects
  • Works closely with contractors or staff to complete project research
  • May participate in multiple projects
  • Individual contributor
  • May present research results to advisors or technical staff/members
  • Starting to develop technical depth in 1-2 areas
  • Focus on projects within a program

 

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in project management of software development for a commercial web-based application.
  • Hands-on knowledge of security aspects of various technologies used in utilities – IT/OT, SCADA, Smart Grid, or other cyber-physical systems.
  • Experience in evaluating cyber security of cloud-based services, infrastructure, and telecom networks
  • Experience in technical security assessment, vulnerability assessment, or network penetration testing in IT / OT environment   
  • Experience in working with external clients on technology implementation or integration
  • Project management or business analysis experience in the software development of a commercial web-based application.
  • Experience in working in IT/OT environment supporting integration and/or maintenance of applications, systems, infrastructure, or networks.
  • Experience in working with external clients on technology implementation or integration
  • Hands-on knowledge of security aspects of various technologies used in utilities – IT/OT, SCADA, Smart Grid, or other cyber-physical systems.
  • Experience in technical security assessment, vulnerability assessment, or network penetration testing in IT / OT environment  
  • Experience in evaluating cybersecurity of cloud-based services, infrastructure, and telecom networks
  • Programming experience in Python, Java, C/C++,  C#, JavaScript, Groovy, or other languages
