We are seeking a Computer Science to join our software development team and develop new capabilities through participation in engineering approaches, systems engineering and subsequent software development. We work directly with our government partners, contractors and other Sandia staff in Livermore, CA to address application or test issues. The successful applicant will have strong programming skills, as well as experience in systems engineering relative to software development, software design and development skills.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Participate in scrum planning meetings, daily stand-ups, sprint and iteration demos
+ Partner to identify and implement solutions to software issues
+ Collaborate to understand new software capabilities and assist in regression suite development
+ Provide customer support by assisting SNL/CA operators to help users with application and identify solutions to critical defects in the software code
+ Engage with solution architects to improve the existing roadmap to accommodate new application features within the IT environment
+ Work with external vendors on new hardware appliances and/or upgrades to existing hardware appliances
+ Participate in the development of SNL's response to external accrediting agency requirements
+ Learn a new skill via mentoring, self-study, or formal training courses

Required:

+ Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Mathematics or relevant field plus 1 year experience; OR Bachelors in the stated fields plus 5 years' experience
+ Experience in software design, engineering, and development
+ Experience with object-oriented software development (e.g., C++ or Java)
+ Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent with the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI access

Desired:

+ Experience with Agile development methodologies, practices, and tools
+ Ability to think broadly and deeply in the design and implementation of application design features
+ Experience with application frameworks for Java (e.g., Spring), and message oriented rule-based routing (e.g., Apache Camel)
+ Experience in distributed system architectures, SOAP/REST web services, Oracle PL/SQL databases, distributed version control (e.g. Git and Mercurial), single page web application development (e.g., HTML5, jQuery), and the Linux operating system
+ Experience with Jenkins continuous integration and continuous delivery and development approaches
+ Experience with software systems engineering approaches leading to software development
+ Experience working with Government customers and/or contractors
+ Teaming skills and proven ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
+ Current SCI access

Department Description:

We execute existing flight and critical communications projects for the Systems Mission Engineering Program Office. We focus on applied research and tailored solutions to tackle real-world technology problems for IC and DoD customers. The departments current focus includes an emergent integrated sensing and communication systems supporting critical missions. We provide system engineering expertise to industry and Government partners. We also maintain and improve existing space payloads. We work with industry/Government partners to implement next generation flight systems. We are also responsible for development/maintenance of full stack cross-domain web applications for multiple users, sites and devices including the design of cross-domain IT architectures. In addition, we are responsible for execution of full system life cycle for multiple flight and communications projects.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship.
