Senior Technician – Lineman

Job Summary

Construct, maintain, and operate medium and high voltage overhead and underground facilities at the Lenox High Voltage Laboratory.

Job Functions:

  • Comply with all high voltage overhead and underground transmission and distribution maintenance and safety procedures and initiate action to correct safety hazards and unsafe conditions.

  • Perform switching in high voltage substations and swithchyards

  • Perform high voltage test setups and configuration changes as need for laboratory testing, safely and efficiently.

  • Construct and repair overhead, underground and distribution testing areas

  • Provide training and guidance to apprentices and others as assigned

  • Read and apply instructions, safety manuals, specifications, and switching diagrams

  • Communicate with the public, customers, dispatchers, and other employees

  • Maintain records and write factual reports

Education:

  • Licensed / certified electrical lineman (required).

  • Completion of OSHA 10, 30 training certification (preferred)

  • Completion of hoisting and rigging certifications (required)

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 3-5 years of prior experience as a technician in at least one of the primary engineering or scientific disciplines.

  • Must be able to set up, assemble, install or build components of experimental apparatus or equipment.

  • Expertise in a specific field requiring specialized training and experience.

  • Performs work of broad scope and complexity that requires application of demonstrated ability to interpret, select, adapt and apply many guidelines, precedents and principles and practices which apply to the area of specialization.

  • Minimum of 10 years as a lineman working in any of the following areas (required).

    • Overhead line crew

    • Underground line crew

    • Transmission or distribution

Ideal Candidate:

 

  • Completion of hoisting and rigging certifications (required)

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • Experience with utility operations to include overhead, underground transmission and substation operations.

  • Experience in construction and repairs of overhead and substation assemblies.

  • General computer skills with Microsoft programs.

  • Safety attitude with job and peers

  • Strong multi-tasking and time management capability

  • Strong team work ability

  • Customer focus and professionalism

  • Self-starter and ability to work alone

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Attention to detail and accuracy oriented
