Service Reliability Engineering (SRE) is a discipline that incorporates aspects of software engineering and applies them to infrastructure and operations problems.  At Cisco, we practice SRE principles to create scalable and highly reliable software systems and solutions. We strongly believe in working on projects that will make tomorrow better than today. We focus on fixing reliability problems in our solutions as well as building tools and systems that will contribute to the reliability of the systems that it supports.

We are looking to hire a Sr. SRE engineer to contribute to the team and team culture, the products, and the processes.

What You'll Do

  • Actively lead the planning, design, implementation and integration of recently released software solutions in customer environments.
  •  Drive solution delivery improvements through automation, testing and best practices implementation to optimize deployments, accelerate customer value-realization and improve overall online service reliability.
  • Practice SRE delivery principles, including building CI/CD pipelines and measure KPIs via Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  •  Interact with professional services delivery, Product Management and BU teams to integrate automation in our offers to improve quality and customer experience.
  •  Collaborate in transformational initiatives to define and improve new delivery methodologies in accordance with DevOps and SRE models
  • Mentor SRE engineers to enable new capabilities, evangelize best practices and accelerate delivery readiness

Who We are

You will be part of the Cloud & Automation Team in Ciscos Customer Experience (CX) Technology and Transformation Group for the Americas region.

  •  A software engineer and/or a scripting-savvy *nix system administrator who hates the monotony and boredom of manual tasks and you love the challenge of taking the most complex manual procedures and automating them.
  • You could also be an Ops" professional that can seek out and anticipate problems before they happen and take action to avoid them.
  • You continuously expand your skillset to include new tools and approaches.
  • You enjoy working with others in a diverse environment, locally and remotely.
  • You have a deep interest in automating deployments so they are clean, predictable and repeatable with minimal impact to availability.
  •  You know what metrics may be useful to track for the operations team and you will set standards for the development teams to follow to ensure adequate instrumentation.
  • You embrace modern DevOps principles and practices.
  • You understand the principles of configuration management and release engineering.
  • You possess deep analytical and problem solving skills when required to assist with service recovery in the event of failure.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience after a B.S or M.S in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Subject matter expertise across 3 or more of the following areas: release engineering, incident management, monitoring, self-service automation, change management, performance and/or chaos engineering. 
  • Strong understanding of networking and software-defined implementations (SDN).
  • Significant experience leveraging DevOps tools to reduce toil, add value and improve reliability on a software solution
  • Significant experience developing and delivering solutions in a public and private cloud environment
  • Strong experience mentoring others to develop programmability and automation skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills, comfortable with groups of people
  • Fluent in English (oral and written skills)
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once and work independently with minimal managerial oversight
  • Subject matter expertise in software development, programmability, automation and DevOps related tools with a minimum of 5 years of experience in 3 or more of the following areas:

o   Automation and Analytics tools: Ansible, Chef/Puppet, Jenkins

o   Linux and Virtualization: Vmware, Docker, OpenStack, Kubernetes

o   Programming Languages/Version Control: Python, JavaScript, Git

o   Controllers: NSO, APIC

o   Data bus: MongoDB

o   APIs and Encoding: XML, JSON,

o   CI/CD, DevOps, Agile

o   Data and software security (PSA), Pen Testing, GIS

Desired Skills

Strong understanding or certification of:

  • Architect level (CCIE/CCDE)
  • Automation and Analytics tools: SaltStack, Splunk
  • Linux and Virtualization: KVM, Vagrant, LXC
  • Programming Languages/Version Control: Java, C++, Go, Perl, Ruby
  • Controllers: XTC/PCE, DNAC, vManage
  • Data bus: Kafka, RabbitMQ, MySQL/MariaDB/PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Redis
