PURPOSE:
Performing a wide array of aviation-related mechanical design, planning, asset management, construction support, and inter-department client services at the Seattle Tacoma International Airport.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Review and advises on large capital and mechanical infrastructure project design and system evaluation including quality assurance and conformity to Port, local, state and federal standards; applicable codes and best practices.
- Reviews project design drawings for coordination of mechanical infrastructure systems with other major capital projects and programs and with expansion of existing systems.
- Reviews and approves scopes, budgets, and schedules for sponsored mechanical infrastructure capital and expense projects.
- Conduct design reviews, construction inspection, testing, commissioning, activation and acceptance of mechanical systems.
- Coordination of design input from various parties, including internal team members and external consultants; and reflect the design input into design documents and drawings
- Develop, coordinate and prepare presentations of technical information to stakeholders to include airlines, tenants, airport staff and Port of Seattle executive leaders.
- Assist maintenance staff on the installation, troubleshooting, replacement and operation of mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment.
- Conduct assessments of existing facilities and prepare mechanical system condition assessment reports. Identify and communicate ideas and plans for remediation of system deficiencies including opportunities for improving system control and performances.
- Develop project scope for asset renewal and replacement. Coordinate asset renewal and replacement plan with airport development plans.
- Review and make determinations on modification requests to existing mechanical infrastructure and conduct infrastructure review meetings for internal stakeholders.
- Develops and maintains airport standards and procedures with respect to design and installation of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Develop mechanical system design, installation and operations that supports the Port of Seattle’s sustainability initiatives, practices and environmental stewardship.
- Provide mentorship to, career development and training of, junior mechanical engineers.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of mechanical and controls systems, engineering concepts, principles, designs, standards, practices, integration, construction, testing, commissioning, activation, maintenance and appropriate codes. Knowledge of system design, principles, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of project management principles, practices and procedures.
Strong skills of persuasion, leadership, organizational, interpersonal, motivational, problem solving, strategic planning, critical thinking, decision making, presentation, customer service, communication and team work. Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to effectively lead, plan/organize, and coordinate with project teams; ability to implement business goals and objectives; manage multiple projects, facilitate, implement and execute operational and system requirements, designs, construction, tests, commissioning, activation, maintenance, and long range strategic objectives and plans. Ability to develop projects, budgets, schedules and deliver quality projects. Ability to perform feasibility studies and prepare and execute master plans.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Combination of education and experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from ABET accredited school;
- Ten (10) years of experience in the design, installation and/or asset management of mechanical systems and infrastructure; and
- Current Professional Engineer License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field;
- Fifteen (15) years of experience in mechanical infrastructure system planning, design, construction and/or maintenance at medium or large hub commercial airports or military aviation facilities.
Work Environment
Will generally work in an office environment.
Additional Details
Weekly Standard Hours:
Normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week).
