We seek a Senior Manager to lead our Space Mission Engineering Program Office (SMEPO) Group. The selected candidate will play a key role on the Center 6300 management team and will have the opportunity to build strategies that bring state-of-the-art physical science to bear on Sandia's national security missions. This role will use a deep understanding of building hardware/sensors that are state-of-the-art technologies.

On any given day, the selected applicant may be called on to:

+ Coordinate strategic plans to obtain as well as successfully execute nationally significant work in the fields of multispectral sensing and space control.
+ Assure the management of schedule, scope, budget, staffing, and risk plans.
+ Perform capability development, program development, and business development roles inside and outside the DOE Laboratory complex.
+ Assure a strong safety and security posture is built into the facility project.
+ Oversee activities that involve the application of engineering methods used within scientific and engineering fields to develop or demonstrate new designs, concepts, materials, machines, products, processes, or systems.
+ Establish and further cross laboratory relationships to facilitate the application of the full spectrum of Sandia capabilities to SMEPO missions.
+ Collaborate with center 6300 senior manager peers to assure effective use of center resources, advance center technologies and capabilities.
+ Actively participate in center level strategic level initiatives
+ This position requires the ability to travel and interact positively with a diverse set of internal and external sponsors


+ Bachelors and Masters degree in engineering, science or related technical field
+ Ten or more years relevant experience, including five years proven leadership and/or managerial experience
+ Experience interacting with government laboratories, government representatives, internal/external partners, and suppliers at all levels to facilitate, plan and deliver on customer requirements
+ Ability to engage in frequent travel (as the environment returns to normal)
+ Active DOE Q security clearance, and can obtain a Special Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance, which may require polygraph testing


+ PhD in engineering or science
+ Five years management experience
+ Experience with developing or managing SPP and SIPP work and understanding of the funding process.
+ Demonstrated capability to lead a complex, highly diversified team of mission execution and mission support organizations that require partnering for successful delivery
+ Successful program/business development, particularly with relevant sponsors such as DoD, DOE, NNSA, IC or other federal agencies
+ Proven ability to develop, advocate, and execute a strategic vision, inspiring others
+ Proven leadership and mentoring abilities for development of managers and a management team
+ Proven ability in establishing enduring, trust-based relationships with staff, leaders of all levels and partners
+ Experience in the follow:

- remote sensing technologies
- understanding of contested space environment
- modeling and simulation
- flight system subject areas
- information/data science
+ Active SCI clearance

We are focused on developing future program opportunities for the Space Mission Program, engaging with key external communities, agencies, and industrial entities. The strategic goals of SMEPO are realized through program development in five key mission areas including 1) Traditional Multispectral Sensing, 2) Missile Warning and Missile Defense, 3) Mission Data Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination, 4) Space Situational Awareness and Space Control, and 5) Space Based ISR. The leaders of these mission areas are responsible for realizing the SMP development and diversification activities. SMEPO also teams with the broad S&T community to drive the development of technologies that will differentiate Sandia as a key member of our Nations space community.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
