Job Overview We have an opportunity in our Global Data Center Operations team for an intelligent and motivated Data Center Engineer who is enthusiastic about data center deployment and site reliability/management. As a member of our team you will be managing existing and new Qualcomm data centers in Taiwan. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our data center and assume a critical role in maintaining the overall up- time, performance, and capacity. Your responsibilities will include: site management, Moves/Adds/Changes of systems within the site. Installations, configurations of server/networking/storage equipment in preparation of administrators work. You will also work with our current Taiwan data center lead and with San Diego teams for site management/including cabling and site growth management going forward. This position is primarily on-site at our facilities in Taiwan Taipei Data Center. - Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: - Rack and install a large inventory of servers, storage, networking gear, data center gear and serial consoles in our production environment - Perform initial configuration and provision for deployment: servers, network gear and various infrastructure related equipment (Console/ILO) configurations for sys-admins - Perform stringent site management and planning for production deployments and growth - Troubleshoot and remedy hardware issues, and provide a detailed report to management/administrators - Manage local vendors for procurement/installations/remediation - Manage RMA/EOL/Disposal processes with various sources - Maintain an up-to-date inventory list of all hardware equipment for locations - Help with co-location capacity and growth planning as well as rack and server layouts with corporate tools - Implement and follow best-practice methodology for maintaining a datacenter/co-location environment for power/cooling/cabling - Track datacenter/co-location related issues and tasks via our ticketing system - Participate in a 24x7x365 on-call support rotation - Available for travel as needed
Minimum Qualifications Minimum 5 years experience working in enterprise scale data centers/computer rooms including:
- Data center best practices including cabling, power balancing, cooling, inventory tracking, and more
- Experience in performing hardware troubleshooting in a large scale server/storage/networking environment
- Hands-on and certified professional experienced with Windows, Unix and IP networking
- Basic system administration skills for servers, storage, and networking devices
- Ability to lift 50 lbs safely and reliably on a day-to-day basis
- Ability to travel occasionally to our other locations around the country (if needed)
Preferred Qualifications 5 + years experience working in enterprise scale data centers/computer rooms including: - Experience working in Co-location facilities - Data center best practices including cabling, power balancing, cooling, inventory tracking, and more Experience in performing hardware troubleshooting in a large-scale server/storage/networking environment Over 5 years Hands-on and certified professional experienced with Windows, UNIX/LINUX and IP networking Over 5 years proven system administration skills for servers, storage, and networking devices including: - Proven experience using data center management tools - Proven track record for working alone, or remotely with minimal supervision - Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, as well as, strong interpersonal skills at all levels or the organization - Vendor management experience. - Meticulous attention to detail and strong organization skills - Take pride in keeping a clean and tidy work environment within the data center/co-location - Self-motivated and able to work alone efficiently and without close supervision - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as, strong interpersonal skills
Education Requirements BA/BS Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience) IT Certifications such as A+, Server+, Network+, ITIL or similar a plus CCNA, or equivalent Electrical/Mechanical experience or certification.
