Senior Diesel Test Engineer (Johnson Matthey, Inc., Taylor, MI) Provide technical coordination between Testing (JMT) and Heavy-Duty Diesel (HDD) groups.  Assist in the planning and execution of application test programs and in the analysis and interpretation of test results. Submit work orders and written line-up to move the project through the JMT process.  Assist in prioritizing workload in diesel test cells.  Review and sign off on daily test cell shift reports. Assist in the development and planning of appropriate JMT programs.  Provide input on the design of customer test programs to ensure the generation of accurate and timely data. Provide technical support to calibration engineers to help in the analysis of catalyst performance problems and assists in the diagnosis and solution of these problems. Provide analysis and interpretation of technical data and emission test results.  Provide technical advice and direction in the design, fabrication, and use of mechanical hardware such as fixtures, converters, injection systems, instrumentation, and control systems. Lead small scale engineering projects requiring coordination of various groups.

Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week, 8:30am–5:30pm

Requirements:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or a directly related field plus 5 years of automobile engineering work experience, or a Master’s degree in the above-named disciplines plus 3 years of automobile engineering work experience.

Of the required experience, must have 3 years of experience in each of the following: 

  • Exhaust analysis equipment such as Horiba MEXA, MKS FTIR and AVL Smart Sampler;
  • Catalyst & exhaust emission experience under 40 CFR Part 1065; 
  • Test cell software such as A&D iTest;
  • Six Sigma and Lean tools; 
  • Engine calibration software such as Mark, CUTY and DevX; and
  • Diesel engine and emission technology.
