We are seeking Science & Engineering Project Managers (S&E PM) at our California site for the risk management team for the W80-4 LEP. The S&E PM will partner closely with the technical leads to manage and execute risk management. On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Assess technical and programmatic scope to identify and evaluate risks across the Product Realization Teams (PRTs) and the program
+ Utilize technical expertise to assess risk validity
+ Manage risks and opportunities where both project risks (potential negative outcomes) and project opportunities (potential positive outcomes) are identified, estimated, technically & programmatically assessed and managed through the life of the project.

Required:

+ Bachelors degree in relevant science, technology, engineering, or math related field plus five or more years of experience in an R&D (Science and/or Engineering) role and/or technical Science & Engineering Project Manager role; or equivalent combination of education and engineering or scientific experience (such as a Master's degree in relevant STEM field plus one or more years of technical S&E PM experience).
+ Current PMP or equivalent certification, or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
+ Knowledge of and experience with standard project management practices for technical work, such as project plan development and control, scope management, project scheduling, cost estimation and management, quality assurance, project staffing, communications planning and management, risk and opportunity management, and procurement management.
+ Proficiency in tools and applications commonly employed in project management activities.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.

Desired:

+ Active Q or Top Secret clearance.
+ Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM).
+ Ability to make decisions requiring scientific or engineering judgment across more than one field.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
+ Ability to effectively communicate across project controls, business, and science and engineering disciplines.
+ Ability to collaborate with management at all levels, customers, other organizations, and technical leads.
+ Experience working nuclear weapon programs/projects at the system and component levels.
+ Experience working with the Department of Energy, the National Nuclear Security Administration, or the Department of Defense.
+ Project management education and certification(s).

Department Description:

The Sandia California site is looking for a Risk Manager for the W80-4 Life Extension Program. The risk team is responsible for using engineering experience to execute the project management responsibilities specific to risk management for the modernization and stockpile Nuclear Weapons Program, the W80-4 LEP. The Nuclear Weapons Programs are responsible for assuring the safety, reliability and security of U.S. nuclear weapons, enabling the defense of our nation through our nuclear strategic deterrent. The Nuclear Weapons Programs three principal thrusts are: (1) overseeing the enduring nuclear weapons stockpile; (2) innovative analyses and evolution of warhead systems, subsystems, and components; their production and deployment; along with the development of supporting technologies; and (3) the safe, effective, and environmentally responsible dismantlement and disposal of weapons retired from the stockpile. Informed with technical expertise in engineering, the S&E PMs provide and employ program/project management (PM) resources to plan, execute, manage, and report major program aspects specific to risk management. These include risk identification, risk assessment, SCURA analysis, review board facilitation, risk closeout, risk handling, and communication with Nuclear Security Enterprise Stakeholders.
