A postdoctoral position in engineering autonomous and smart access systems is available at the Massachusetts General Hospital in the Wellman Center for Photomedicine. This position will be appointed through Harvard Medical School at the rank of postdoctoral fellow, and involves the design, construction, validation and deployment of novel autonomous and smart access systems. Candidates with strong background and hands-on experience in acoustics and automation and control and microelectronic design and implementation are highly encouraged to apply. 

This position requires deep technical skills and knowledge and focuses on developing novel access system devices using principles, materials, and structures that are autonomous, flexible, self-contained, biocompatible, mobile. Such devices are primarily used for automated point-of-care applications, solving the limitations of conventional technologies and conventional manual approaches. The qualified candidate will work collaboratively with clinicians in a multidisciplinary environment. One focus of this position will be the development of an autonomous navigation system that utilizes optics and acoustics to navigate and locate specific targets.

Requirements

PhD in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field is required. Demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas is required: acoustic sensing systems, acoustic design, acoustic systems fabrication, automation and control, optimization, microcircuit design. Interest/experience in medical applications is desirable but not necessary.
