This role is responsible for leading the acquiring, business development, and client management efforts for enablement partners. Establishes relationships with enablement partners to maximize transaction volume growth and market share. Ensures the implementation of company's value-added products. Executes on strategic initiatives and marketing programs in support of broadening the acceptance footprint.

Target technology partners include payment gateways, payment facilitators, web based platform providers, shopping cart providers, and integrated software vendors. Responsibilities include establishing and growing relationships with the above partners to maximize card acceptance, create transaction volume growth and market-share improvement, ensure consistent implementation of Discover Global Network value added products, execute on strategic initiatives and marketing programs in support of initiatives to broaden the acceptance footprint. Consult with client facing teams within Discover and other internal business partners to help them support their client needs in regards to mobile, digital and contactless payments. Serve as an internal resource and subject matter expert on the assigned technology partners and overall digital payments industry.

*The ideal candidate would sit in Riverwoods (IL) but remote would be considered.


  • Provides coaching and guidance to team members.
  • Presents and executes marketing and promotional initiatives to increase transactions, grow market share, and improve merchant stated awareness.
  • Implements and supports operational initiatives. Ensures compliance with the network's change release processes, compliance, and business practices.
  • Ensures that partners accept network cards and that they include all appropriate company products in their offerings.
  • Partners with enablement partners and the business to identify, develop, and implement new business partnership opportunities. Managing payment and potential payment partner lists including research, engagement and validation of third party payment partners
  • Serve as the strategic liaison between Discover and assigned technology partners to uncover and seize business growth opportunities
  • Establish / maintain strong relationships with decision-makers across all divisions of the assigned strategic partners to create and complete new business opportunities
  • Validate and support technical functionality/certification with assigned technology partners
  • Serve as subject matter expert in collaboration with Strategic Merchant Relations, Acquirer Relations, Product, and Marketing teams to assist them in providing mobile, digital and integrated payments services to their clients

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here's what we need from you:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field

  • 6+ years of experience in sales/relationship management, business development, strategy, operations, project management, or related field

  • In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of experience in sales/relationship management, business development, strategy, operations, project management, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

If we had our say, we'd also look for:

  • Master's Degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in sales/relationship management, business development, strategy, operations, project management, or related field
  • Experience preferred to leverage industry knowledge and experience to accelerate business results with senior level management of assigned technology partners
  • Exceptional relationship management and consultative sales skills and proven experience building deep and influential relationships with key stake holders, executive level clients and internal business partners
  • Broad payments industry experience and knowledgeable about acquiring industry and key business functions: planning, strategy, marketing, finance, operations, etc.
  • Ability to produce and deliver influential presentations (internal & external)
  • Project management, business analysis, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time, including overnight
