Our team is seeking a results-oriented R&D Electromechanical Technologist to develop, build, modify, repair, and maintain a variety of electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment. You will test materials' properties, such as, electrical responses to thermal, electrical or radiation environments. You'll be contributing to our mission's success! On any given day you may be called upon to:

+ Work on electrical and mechanical projects
+ Determine equipment requirements and contribute to the development of procedures
+ Assist with test designs and design-drafting services
+ Configure equipment and instrument assemblies for testing
+ Work in a laboratory, operating and maintaining experimental equipment
+ Perform experiments such as measuring electrical properties of materials with clearly outlined procedures while recording and documenting observations
+ Maintain a safe environment in an electrical measurement laboratory
+ Analyze and provide the initial interpretation of testing data
+ Perform circuit modeling of materials behavior


+ Bachelors degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM), or equivalent combination of relevant scientific or engineering education and experience
+ Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance


+ Experience working with >1 kV power supplies
+ Experience testing a materials thermal and electrical properties
+ Experience conducting tests involving radiation sources
+ Experience using LabView and Matlab or other data collection and analysis tools
+ Interest in designing circuits and simulating circuits
+ A passion for learning

Department Description:

The Electronic, Optical and Nanomaterials Department is a hub for innovation and exciting mission work. We design, synthesize and invent advanced, multifunctional materials to push the boundaries of what is possible and to satisfy exceptional needs. Our material toolbox includes electronic, optical, electrochemical, structural and selective-molecular-binding materials, as well as new classes of materials beyond the horizons of what is commercially available. We control chemical and structural characteristics at fundamental physical scales in inorganic and hybrid systems to explore new material paradigms that will optimize and improve material performance. Our efforts support DOE Defense Programs, DOE Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, DOE Electricity Distribution and Energy Reliability offices, other federal agencies and industry. In addition, we embrace partnerships with universities and establish ongoing collaborations with other specialists to leverage our research investments while participating in, and contributing to, the international research community. Research thrusts include nanoparticle, nanofibers, and atomic layer deposited materials, thin films, passive and active materials for electronic, magnetic, photonic, electromechanical, and fluidic microsystems, self-assembly, and colloid chemistry.

Security Clearance:
