We are seeking a Radio Frequency Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the critically important Space Protection mission area. This portfolio needs a dedicated full-time staff member willing and enable to work with a multi-disciplinary team as well as independently to solve unique and complex problems. The selected applicant will engage in leading edge R&D efforts that 1) identify critical capability shortfalls, 2) develop and architect innovative integrated solutions including space system components, and 3) develop cost estimates and project schedules. As part of a coordinated and disciplined approach, concepts will be presented to the Government, along with value propositions and descriptions of how the system impacts the Space Protection mission. The overall objective of SMEPO is to develop funded programs that make national impact and demonstrate, sustain, and enhance Sandias space competencies. All applicants should anticipate a need to support moderate travel.

Required:

+ Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Physics, Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical engineering (or related discipline)
+ Three years relevant technical experience with actual and/or modeling and simulation of space-based systems
+ Experience leading government-funded technical R&D projects
+ Experience in satellite payload research, development and engineering
+ Experience with modeling & simulation verification and validation
+ Current DOE Q clearance, or equivalent, and can obtain SCI clearance, which may include a polygraph test

Desired:

+ Working knowledge of pulsed and CW lasers, infrared, visible, microwave optics and associated sensors, focal plane arrays and space technology
+ Experience in interacting with customers and partners
+ Experience and interest in identifying, realizing and developing new project opportunities
+ Experience with DoD and IC Space Domain Awareness / Space Protection / Space Control communities
+ Experience with EO/IR, radar, and image processing
+ Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

Department Description:

We provide architectures and enabling technologies for pathfinding space-based solutions to national security problems. 6353's focus is on expansion and evolution of mission capabilities for the Space Mission Engineering Program and the Science and Technology Advancing Resilience for Contested Space (STARCS) internal research and development campaign. Responsibilities of 6353 are to foster research and develop solutions in the areas of Space Situational/Domain Awareness (SSA/SDA), Space Protection, and Space Control and nurture strategic partnerships with various government agencies, universities, and industry partners operating and supporting space missions.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship.
