R&D Test Engineer (R&D Engineer 2)

Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science

and engineering on behalf of national security. This position in the Weapons Test Engineering group of the Weapon Stockpile Modernization Division is in charge of designing and executing tests in support of the weapons program. Testing activities require working in a team environment with other engineers, scientists and technicians within LANL, DOE, DoD and other institutions to perform successful test operations that include designing tests and associated equipment in order to meet testing requirements; writing test plans and technical procedures; ensuring proper setup and availability of test equipment; and working with appropriate personnel to execute tests, ensure test data is collected and analyzed, and write test reports. Specific test environments include shock, vibration, rotation, impact, modal, load/deflection testing, pressure, thermal and confined high-explosives.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university program; advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in test engineering to include test design, planning, preparation, execution, data reduction and analysis, customer interfacing and documenting of experimental work

  • Proficiency in specialized engineering software for data acquisition and analysis, such as MATLAB, LabView, Origin or similar software

  • Knowledge of engineering design and analysis of components, Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methods

  • Experience with fabrication methods and equipment for obtaining/measuring component attributes

  • Active DOE Q clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
