If this motivates you, this position may be your answer. We are seeking a technical staff member to architect and support testing of aero-space components. Testing includes shock and random vibration testing, pyro shock testing, structural mechanics testing, centrifuge testing, thermal testing, RF and RCS testing, and high-altitude chamber testing. Testing is performed at multiple levels including design verification, integration, qualification, and flight certification. The Test Engineer will join our family of design engineers, systems engineers, and other members of the technical program to support all projects and programs under the Integrated Military Systems center. As a senior position, the Test Engineer/Architect has both a leadership and technical aspect.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Be a part of the team that, along with the technical design team and project managers, develop the project plan for each individual effort.
+ Work in both the planning and execution of this type of work while teaming with discipline specific experts in their fields.
+ Lead/Assist with generation of system and component level test plans
+ Work with external component suppliers to qualify components for flight
+ Work with engineers to develop shock, vibration, and pyro test specifications for specific test flights
+ Work with component developers and system engineers to develop environmental specifications in support of system development and qualification.
+ Work with staff to coordinate testing of components through full flight systems
+ Design and oversee fabrication of custom fixtures to assist in testing, follow best practices for fixture design
+ Oversee testing of electro-mechanical components at Sandia facilities and external locations (NTS, LLNL, etc.)
+ Perform post test data review and report creation


+ You have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM discipline plus eight years of relevant experience (experience architecting and performing systems and component test, qualification, and performance verification); or Bachelor's and Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics plus four years of relevant experience as stated above.
+ You can obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.


Ideally, your backgrounf would include experience with several of the following:

+ Structural mechanics testing, shock, pyro shock, and random vibration testing
+ Centrifuge testing, thermal testing, RF and RCS testing, and high-altitude chamber testing.
+ Testing experience at multiple levels including design verification, integration, qualification, and flight certification.

Department Description:

The Integrated Military Systems, Systems Engineering department supports internal and external customer programs in areas including: Missile, Air & Space Defense; Strike Systems; and Pathfinder Technologies. We apply interdisciplinary systems engineering principles and approaches to transform a set of customer needs into a solution that meets those needs with verifiable, traceable, and testable requirements. The team accomplishes this by overseeing the engineering design, development, and demonstration of complex military systems. Methods used are Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Concept of Operations Development, Requirements Analysis and Definition, System Design Descriptions, Trade Studies, Design Analysis, Interface Design & Assessment, Integrated System Test Planning, System Verification & Validation, and Configuration Management.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.
