Are you looking for a rewarding career working in the national interest? Are you someone who thrives in a team environment? We are seeking a R&D Science and Engineering Team Lead to direct a small group of technologists that fabricate electrical components and custom cables to support the engineering development programs at the California location. The selected candidate will work with engineers to refine design, define the scope of work, and develop budgets and schedules. In the lab, you will allocate work for individual team members, manage laboratory operations, create and monitor training plans for individual technologists, and manage the safety and security processes.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Manage and work alongside 5-7 technologists that perform the day-to-day operations of fabrication and inspection of electronic components and complex cabling.
+ Provide leadership to ensure that hardware and component deliverables are met.
+ Enhance and build the team's capability by recruiting new technologists, implementing training programs and expanding the fabrication capabilities and methods to improve process and quality
+ Cultivate and build partnerships with a diverse customer base across Sandia's California and New Mexico sites.
+ Be accountable for cost estimations, planning of large projects, engineering support, customer interface, tracking costs and schedules utilizing automated tools.


+ Bachelor's degree in a relevant science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field plus 5 or more years of related electrical/electronics fabrication experience;
+ Prior experience in a team lead or other leadership role;
+ The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.


+ Masters degree in electrical or electronics engineering or other relevant STEM field;
+ The ability to understand, apply, and lead the fabrication process for electronic and electromechanical components and assemblies;
+ Design experience working with software packages such as CAD, Solid Works, or equivalent;
+ Experience with 3D printing/additive manufacturing;
+ Nuclear weapons engineering experience;
+ Demonstrated ability to successfully manage and complete programs and projects (or completion of project management coursework);
+ Demonstrated ability to team with others to produce successful outcomes;
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills as customer service skills;
+ A commitment to a culture of security and safety.

Department Description:

The Exploratory Engineering Solutions Department (8645) is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying engineered solutions to counter threats to our nation. The department is a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists engaged in science-based engineering and component development to support a wide range of research and development activities. The projects within 8645 often involve teaming with other groups with expertise in biology, chemistry, materials science, radiation physics, and nuclear weapons to develop prototypes. Our work helps researchers study fundamental phenomena and turns basic scientific understanding into functional capabilities. The department supports a number of government programs.
