We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join our diverse team!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Coordinate research and development activities for ICADS, RDP, GNT, NAPGS and LAZAP within the USNDS program.
+ Uses systems engineering principles to develop and enhance processes or systems which enable system wide activities and synthesize new approaches to realize goals.
+ Defines future development activity and possible technology transfer of solutions, products, principles or technology.
+ Act as a deputy to USNDS management and serves as the primary interface for external partners. Briefs the customer on status and makes recommendations during customer meetings such as PMR, PRB, etc.
+ Collaborates with those responsible for developing, testing, and implementing the system and its elements.
+ Understands the nature of system problems and solution options, and the trade space to evaluate the efficacy of those options and may lead customers and partners decision space.
+ Evaluates, tests, and analyzes subsystem contribution to system function.
+ Works with the various subsystem teams to verify complex requirements, often from a combination of analysis and simulated environmental testing.

Required:

+ Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math with 8 years of experience
+ Familiarity or certification in process improvement activities such as Lean 6, ISO, CMMi and ITIL
+ Experience developing and managing integrated solution roadmaps
+ Experience as a technical advisor or liaison to external partners
+ Can obtain a DOE Q or TS/SCI clearance

Desired:

+ An advanced technical degree in a relevant discipline plus 2 or more years experience
+ Operation or management of satellite ground system projects
+ Exceptional communication skills with an ability to form good working relationships with both the customers and internal employees
+ Strong leadership skills
+ Demonstrated ability to handle adversity and manage competing priorities
+ Active DOE Q (or TS) with SCI

Department Description:

USNDS Ground Lifecycle Engineering is responsible for the project management, systems engineering, and operations of the satellite ground systems that support the US capability to monitor the earth's atmosphere and surrounding space for nuclear detonations. This department serves as one of the technical interfaces to the Air Force for projects within the United States Nuclear Detonation (NUDET) Detection System (USNDS) Ground Program, which include the Integrated Correlation and Display System (ICADS) and the Ground NDS Terminal (GNT). In addition, the team works closely with Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) operators to support real-time missions, resolve and analyze anomalies, and define ground system requirements.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
