We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer. You will lead Systems Engineering efforts across a portfolio of modeling/analysis/simulation/algorithm (ModSim) activities that support the United States Nuclear Detonation (NUDET) Detection System (USNDS) as part of a multi-project leadership team, which will be responsible for shaping the future of ModSim for USNDS, including the development of a ModSim roadmap and guiding execution of ModSim development projects.

On any given day, your duties may include:

+ Application of system knowledge to influence modeling investments via prioritization and technical direction
+ Development of modeling and infrastructure concepts and architectures, formulation of requirements (functional, performance, interfaces)
+ Modernizing deployment strategies (networks and platforms)

Significant emphasis will be on integration and collaboration across multiple tools/systems that support a wide range of users and partners, requiring coordination with internal and external collaborators.


+ You have an advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in relevant STEM discipline with 1-2 years experience; or a Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline plus 5-years of related experience
+ Your background includes experience with systems engineering principles such as requirements derivation, allocation, or management; verification planning or execution; and project leadership
+ Your skillset includes experience in modeling/simulation/analysis/algorithms
+ You have a current DOE Q clearance, or equivalent


Ideally, your background would also include:

+ Familiarity with USNDS
+ Familiarity with principles of computer science and application to modeling infrastructure
+ Experience with USNDS tools such as NDSMS, ISP, and models used by those tools
+ Active SCI clearance

Department Description:

We provide research and development (R&D), systems engineering, system analysis, system test, and project management for the United States Nuclear Detonation Detection System (USNDS) to DoD and DOE sponsors. We use systems engineering expertise to support USNDS space and ground systems throughout the lifecycle. We utilize advanced modeling and simulation capabilities to assess USNDS performance as a system-of-systems and inform partner decisions. The department also works closely with ground and flight systems to ensure that USNDS needs are met.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance to start.

Position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance or active clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD) to be considered for this position.
