We are currently seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer who will be embedded with the Missile Defense Agency Ground-based Midcourse Defense (MDA/GM) Directorate and provide technical and programmatic expertise in weapons systems analysis, design, mission systems performance, and system deployment for the GM Program. As the selected candidate, you will be expected to ensure youre your technical capabilities are maintained and advanced over time to ensure the ability to provide leading edge solutions for MDA/GM and provide solutions to other national security problems. You will be responsible for coordinating with other systems engineers, scientists, and technicians within the Applied Technology Support department, and in coordination with the department manager, across Sandia National Laboratories, for development and execution of analyses, studies, prototype development, and programmatic support of MDA/GM objectives.

As the successful candidate, you will be on-site at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama supporting MDA/GMD but will also be required to travel in support of other DoD and Federal agencies on the Eastern Seaboard.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Support dynamic tasking by the government, MDA/GMD and other MDA elements
+ Aid development of advanced concepts and analyses that can be utilized in missile interceptor development, prototyping, or deployment programs
+ Develop technology growth strategies and transition of technologies to industrial suppliers
+ Support interceptor deployment and installation efforts with programmatic and/or technical recommendations, studies, and analyses
+ Coordinate efforts/strategies for MDA and work with resources across the labs
+ Collaborate with other DoD organizations and other FRRDC's and UARC's


+ Bachelors or masters degree in engineering or science-related discipline, plus a minimum of 10 years of technical leadership experience
+ 5 years experience working with the DoD on missile technologies, development, testing and deployment
+ 5 years experience working with the Missile Defense Agency
+ Demonstrated leadership skills including an ability to lead multidisciplinary technical teams.
+ Demonstrated ability to make product deliveries meeting performance, cost, and schedule requirements
+ Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, teambuilding, communication, and presentation skills
+ This position requires the ability to live and work in the Huntsville, AL area, with the ability to travel to SNL (Albuquerque, NM), as well as partner organizations, several times per year and occasionally MDA test locations (Kauai, HI, Wallops Is., VA, Kodiak, AK, Vandenberg AFB, CA, Kwajelin Atoll, Marshall Islands, etc.) as needed (every few years).
+ Active DoD Top Secret or DOE Q-clearance with the ability to obtain a SCI, which may require a polygraph test


Ideally, your back ground will include some of the following:

+ Leading and working within complex integrated teams
+ Working with other DOD sponsors or prior DoD service
+ Managing projects with budgets in excess of $25M / year
+ Leading process improvement efforts
+ Development of complex missile defense hardware, software, and firmware
+ Systems Engineering, Planning, and Analysis
+ Integrated Test and Evaluation
+ Coordinating efforts, fielding systems and providing strategic guidance to sponsors
+ Collaborating with UARCs (i.e. Johns Hopkins APL) and FFRDCs (i.e. DOE laboratory, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Aerospace Corporation)
+ Working with advanced technologies, delivering responsive technical solutions in anticipation of Missile, Air & Space Defense mission needs, and facilitating the integration and sustainment of operational capabilities

Department Description:

The Applied Technology Support department, 5413, provides multi-disciplinary embedded technology support at offsite customer locations focusing on innovative weapon systems analyses, design, and mission systems performance for national security mission areas with personnel capable of providing subject matter expertise. The Department supports Strategic Partners needs/requirements by aligning with Sandias capabilities.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
