Join a diverse and dynamic team that is driving Nuclear Deterrence (ND) technology and programs forward through integration and engineering excellence! We are seeking R&D Systems Engineers to join the New Mexico Stockpile Systems Engineering & Integration team. You will work with Stockpile Systems Managers, Technical Leads, ND Organizations, and customers to create and execute rigorous integration projects across Stockpile Systems including Modernization Transitions, Integrated Surety Architectures, Transportation, Pantex Program Management, and enduring Stockpile Stewardship.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Design, implement, and execute complex collaborative Systems-of-Systems projects
+ Collaborate closely with NM and CA Stockpile and Modernization Systems teams to execute Integration Engineering projects including technical and programmatic aspects
+ Work closely with customers and partners including CENW, Pantex, Transportation, ND Systems, SNL S&T community, and ND Program Management
+ Develop positive relationships with colleagues across the Nuclear Security Enterprise
+ Identify, negotiate and define System(s) requirements to enable function and performance,analyze design architectures to determine the most effective integrated system solution, and implement into a complete functional system to meet requirements.


+ Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, System Engineering or a relevant STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) discipline, plus at least (3) years experience in Nuclear Deterrence.
+ Experience in delivering products and/or services to internal and/or external customers and stakeholders.
+ An active Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance or DoD equivalent.


+ Experience in an ND discipline or closely related area including ND Systems and/or Components.
+ Experience in systems and/or component analysis, product design/development/production, stockpile evaluation, experimental and/or modeling & simulation, materials analysis, or other activities applied to nuclear weapons.
+ Experience executing ND or National Security-related programmatic work and experience working successfully across ND and related Organizations (Centers, Divisions, NSE sites).
+ Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and customer service skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to deliver results and effectively lead/guide multidisciplinary teams engaged in visionary or complex Integration work.
+ Demonstrated ability to build strong, trust-based teaming relationships with teams both internal and external to ND and to SNL.

Department Description:

Department 2225, Nuclear Weapon System Engineering & Integration, is an integral part of the New Mexico Stockpile Systems organization (2220) and plays a critical role in the execution of our Nuclear Deterrence (ND) mission. Department 2225 is responsible for Mission Critical Stockpile Systems and ND Integration activities including management of Laboratory Operations, Risk Informed Stockpile Evaluation, Pantex Program Management, Cross-Cut Multi-Weapon System Systems Leadership, SNL Test Capabilities Management System, and interfacing to mission computing partners for the SNL Nuclear Deterrence community. Department 2225 uses System Engineering tools, methodologies, and processes to execute strategic and tactical Integration and engineering activities on behalf of ND Stockpile, Modernization, Sustainment, and Technical Maturation programs. Our 2225 team partners with ND Modernization, ND Sustainment, ND Technical Maturation, Transportation, Pantex, Weapons Evaluation Test Lab (WETL), Surety Analysis & Engineering, Weapons Response Groups, LANL, LLNL, and the Chief Engineers Office for Nuclear Weapons (CENW).

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
