We are seeking a R&D Systems Research and Analysis for the International Biological & Chemical Threat Reduction Group\.
Veterinary Degree
Knowledge and understanding of infectious diseases of livestock and zoonosis
Clinical and/or laboratory veterinary experience
Public Health Advanced Degree \(MPH, PhD\) or equivalent experience
Willingness and ability to undertake periodic domestic and international business travel, including low, medium, and high risk countries, for periods of up to several weeks
Experience that demonstrates the ability to work effectively in teams, communicate effectively and persuasively, and engage positively with project team members and other project stakeholders
Experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully plan and execute technical projects
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Large Animal Veterinarian with expertise in:
\-\-herd health;
\-\-infectious diseases;
\-\-diagnostic medicine
The work is focused on specific needs for international partner countries to prevent or mitigate pandemics and establish country capacities in biosafety and biosecurity\.
Required:
+ DVM \(Doctor of Veterinary Medicine\)
+ Knowledge and understanding of infectious diseases of livestock and zoonoses
+ Clinical and/or lab
+ Laboratory veterinary experience
+ Willingness and ability to undertake periodic domestic and international business travel,including low, medium, and high risk countries, for periods of up to several weeks
+ Experience that demonstrates the ability to work effectively in teams, communicate effectively and persuasively, and engage positively with project team members and other project stakeholders
Desired:
+ Knowledge and experience working in One Health or similar cross\-disciplinary efforts
+ An additional advanced technical degree in a field relevant to the work of the department or significant equivalent experience
+ Technical knowledge and competencies appropriate to the position
+ Knowledge and/or experience in Biosafety and Biosecurity or Chemical safety and security, and applying this information to improve the risk management field
+ Knowledge and/or experience in international security issues
+ Knowledge of biological or chemical science and/or engineering\-related fields
+ Experience and desire to affect global security issues from a technical perspective
+ Foreign language skills are a plus
+ International business experience is a plus
+ Broad awareness of Sandia National Labs non\-proliferation capabilities and goals
+ Experience and knowledge to support or complete projects in an international setting
+ Thorough knowledge of and experience with designing, planning, and executing projects
+ Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex system issues and ideas to customers and stakeholders at all levels of government within the United States as well as Internationally
+ Demonstrated experience working productively and proactively, both independently and as part of various multi\-disciplinary project teams, in a diverse and multi\-disciplinary team environment
+ Proficiency using standard office software tools, such as: Microsoft Office and Sharepoint
+ Interest in Global Animal Health;
+ International Capacity Building;
+ Expertise in Internal Medicine, Preventative Medicine, Epidemiology;
+ Practical or Clinical Experience;
Department Description:
The 06825 Department is multidisciplinary and focuses on advancing international threat reduction goals by promoting safe, secure and responsible use of dangerous biological and chemical agents around the globe\. The IBCTR program provides specific technical advice to the US Government on issues related to counter\-chembioterrorism, the Biological Weapons Convention, the Chemical Weapons Convention, and has projects in the following areas: security system analysis, design and implementation; agent risk prioritization; outbreak control and management; information control and management; training in the areas of biosafety, chemical safety, security, risk awareness, disease surveillance and diagnostics, and related topics; and global, regional, and country\-specific analysis and assessments\. These projects involve both US interests as well as those of various foreign countries and international organizations\.

Security Clearance:
This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.
Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U\.S\. Air Force background screen for access to the work site\. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment\.
If hired without a clearance, and one subsequently becomes required or you bid on positions that require a DOE\-granted security clearance, a pre\-processing background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications may be conducted prior to a required federal background investigation\. This Limited Term Employee \(LTE\) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years\.
Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance\.
