**Are you passionate about your work and dream of utilizing state\-of\-the\-art facilities to explore solutions? Do you want to join a diverse team that solves challenging issues of national interest?**

We are seeking a physicist, chemist, material scientist, electrical engineer, or mechanical engineer to drive R&D in our atomically precise advanced manufacturing \(APAM\) group\.APAM is an emergent field involving the controlled placement of matter with atomic\-precision to yield new forms of nanoscale electronic devices\. APAM currently relies on selectively depassivating hydrogen\-terminated silicon surfaces with a scanning tunneling microscope \(STM\), and using the STM for everything from device patterning to spectroscopic characterization of site\-selective functionalization of the surface\. Our multidisciplinary team seeks to expand what can be made using APAM to anticipate opportunities that lie in the future of the microelectronics industry\. Because our pathway leverages area\-selective surface chemistry to manufacture dopant\-based structures, a second opportunity lies in understanding how these concepts could integrate into the manufacturing process at a traditional silicon foundry\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Direct a team of postdocs and technologists in APAM and surface chemistry driven device and microelectronics research
+ Coordinate multidisciplinary work across teams with specialties ranging from chemical modeling, microfabrication, electrical measurement, materials characterization, and device and circuit modeling\.
+ Develop new programs leveraging the unique capabilities of this multidisciplinary team
+ Research technical problems and obtain needed support that address challenging US Energy and National Security needs
+ Engage effectively across multidisciplinary R&D teams, programmatic managers and customers to advance R&D objectives and deliver innovative solutions

+ PhD in physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, or related discipline\.
+ Willingness to perform research in a team environment and communicate in a team environment\.
+ Demonstrated ability to drive creative R&D, as evidenced by publications in peer\-reviewed journals where the applicant is the first author\.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance\.

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

+ Relevant work experience beyond PhD \- Postdoctoral or company experience in R&D\.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead R&D teams, as evidenced by projects where the applicant has helped guide research activities of a team of employees, postdocs or students\.
+ Demonstrated ability to develop R&D programs, as evidenced through involvement in grant applications, project management, or formal project reporting\.
+ R&D experience in device fabrication, materials characterization with scanned probe or scanned beam techniques, surface chemistry, or microelectronics\.
