We are seeking a highly motivated and team oriented component engineer to support Gas Transfer System development\. The candidate must show strong aptitude for verbal and written communication\. We expect to hire someone who can bring their talents to a multidisciplinary team and work collectively to address meaningful problems\. This position requires some travel to New Mexico, Kansas City, and Savannah River\. We are looking for an engineer to:

+ Lead the design, feature development, integration, testing and manufacture of pressure vessels, and valves designed to enable gas flow\.
+ Work with a manufacturing partner on developing production ready drawings, process development and component qualification for full scale production\.
+ Work with systems engineering on component integration, interfaces and assembly\.
+ Develop and execute test plans to evaluate a components expected life cycle\.


+ MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, and experience working as an engineer in a related field\.
+ Experience with CAD \(CREO, Solidworks, etc\)
+ Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U\.S\. DOE Q security clearance


+ Demonstrated leadership and project management skills
+ Experience in developing project plans and managing schedule, costs, deliverables, and risks
+ Experience with mechanical component design and production qualification
+ Experience with creation and review of product drawings \(e\.g\. ASME Y14\.5M dimensioning and tolerancing\)
+ Experience with experimental methods, data acquisition and analysis
+ Familiarity with writing, understanding, and/or updating computer code \(MATLAB, Fortran, C\+\+, etc\)
+ Experience with high pressure gas experiments

Department Description:

The Gas Transfer System \(GTS\) Engineering Department is a group of engineers, material scientists, and technologists who are responsible for the design and maintenance of gas transfer systems for national security programs\. Our work has three major components: scientific research, advanced component development, and engineering support of existing systems\. Responsibilities include high\-pressure gas reservoir design, explosive component design, development of welding technologies, and investigating the effect of hydrogen isotopes in various materials\. The department operates a high pressure testing facility and a welding/brazing facility\. Our personnel routinely interact with other Sandia engineering and research groups, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, production agencies \(located in Kansas City, Savannah River, and Texas\), the National Nuclear Security Agency \(NNSA\), and the Department of Defense \(DOD\)\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
