Are you interested in becoming a part of a high-achieving, positive team which prides itself on successful technology development? Org. 5326 Inertial Systems and Avionics II is looking for a highly motivated engineer with experience working with inertial sensors and inertial measurement units (IMU) and their use in highly-accurate inertial navigation systems, event detection components, and precise gimbal-controlled applications. The engineer will be called upon to perform activities related to the validation, testing, and characterization of these sensors and will support the organizations multiple programs. The individual will leverage their knowledge of inertial sensor physics and properties into collecting and analyzing data from calibration lab equipment and mechanical test environments (vibration, shock, and centrifuge), in their evaluation of sensor products. Furthermore, the individual will also be expected to maintain market knowledge of the inertial sensor field through testing, research, and attendance at technical interchange meetings. Additionally, the engineer will be involved in the design, test and delivery of embedded electronics systems that utilize inertial sensors and GPS receivers. The individual will also work with Org. 5320 teams in a variety of work efforts ranging from internal Sandia missile system customers; intelligence customers; nuclear weapon component and systems groups; and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) groups.

Required:

+ MS in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or related STEM field plus 5-7 years of relevant experience; or
+ BS in electrical, mechanical engineering or related STEM field with 10-12 years applicable work experience.
+ Matlab programming for utilizing/modifying or upgrading existing data analysis tools.
+ Experience with inertial sensors (gyros and accelerometers), inertial sensor and IMU calibration and assessment.
+ Experience with magnetometers would be helpful though not essential.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance.

Desired:

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

+ Programming experience with developing software for instrument control.
+ A strong analytical background, either through work experience or formal education.
+ Electronics development experience.
+ Understanding of inertial sensor designs.
+ Ability to conceive innovative solutions to complex problems.
+ Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts and solutions to team members, customers and stakeholders.
+ Active DOE Q or DoD TS Security Clearance.

Department Description:

The Inertial Systems and Avionics II Org. (5326) develops and delivers innovative inertial and electronic systems for a wide range of customers. These systems are intended for many aerospace and ground applications ranging from missile systems, air-delivered weapons, unattended ground sensors, and exploratory-test RF and digital communication test units. The organization specializes in selection and evaluation of inertial sensors along with developing embedded high-performance electronics subsystems for data acquisition and algorithm processing. Members of the organization have broadly varying skills that include inertial sensor and IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) assessment and analysis; high-speed digital design (microcontroller and FPGA); firmware and software design; power and signal conditioning; and a strong mechanical design and electro/mechanical fabrication capability.

Also, there is a vast amount of test and field experience that the organization brings forth to assure timely and reliable deliveries. Product developments can range from quick-turn to high rigor; and involve requirements capture, architectural design, modeling, detailed design, fabrication, system integration, testing at the appropriate levels, and test data analysis to ensure all requirements are met.
