We are seeking an R&D Electrical Design Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team that is designing, developing and sustaining advanced components, subsystems, and systems for national defense programs. General responsibilities for electrical engineers range from conceptual design, detailed design (a combination of analog, digital, embedded firmware, schematic capture, printed circuit board layout), analysis, overseeing fabrication of hardware, defining and executing qualification/testing plans, system integration, field support, as well as project management. Successful candidates will work in a team environment with opportunities to acquire increasing levels of responsibility.

We are seeking an Electrical/Electronics Engineer with circuit design experience to join our close-knit team to develop electronics for our Synthetic Aperture Radar systems

Required:

+ Bachelors/Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
+ Experience in digital and/or analog circuitry design to withstand harsh environments, embedded hardware and software systems, and environmental testing
+ Ability to provide oversight to and/or generation of electrical drawings and design definition documents
+ Ability to give technical presentations to peers/managers/customers.
+ Knowledge and experience with PC-board layout tools (e.g., EAGLE PCB or Mentor Graphics), and PC-board fabrication and assembly design principals
+ Ability to perform hands-on testing and de-bugging of circuitry, with clear mastery of tools such as oscilloscopes, logic/network/spectrum analyzers, function/pulse generators
+ Self-motivation and ability to work well as a part of a multidisciplinary project team to achieve project goals
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance
+ Ability to travel

Desired:

Ideally, your background should also include:

+ An obvious passion for engineering and building new things
+ Strong communication skills (especially technical writing skills), interpersonal skills, and the ability to influence others
+ Ability to team with system engineer(s) to ensure requirements can be and are met from board-level circuit designs, analysis, qualification of this hardware and system integration
+ Experience designing embedded systems
+ Experience with PIC processors and associated system integration
+ Design and develop specific manufacturing design requirements (i.e., PC board material, trace impedances, routing requirements, PC board stack-up, etc) and oversight of the manufacturing of PC boards
+ Demonstrated experience with circuit design and analysis;
+ Proven experience with design and analysis tools (e.g., Matlab and LabVIEW), analog simulation codes (e.g., LTSpice), and HDL simulation codes (e.g.,ModelSim);
+ Ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines.
+ Oversight of electrical fabrication.
+ A current and active DOE Q-level security clearance, or equivalent

We work in the Mission Systems Engineering space for our Surveillance and Reconnaissance Program Office, mapping customer needs to uniquely compelling system solutions by leveraging Sandias expertise in various sensor technologies, computing platforms, and data analyses as well as Sandias external partnerships.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.
