We are seeking a motivated and experienced RF engineer and researcher for designing and developing advanced integrated circuit products. As the selected candidate, your work will focus on RFIC/MMIC designs for a variety of projects including highly integrated receivers, transmitters, power amplifiers, and unique sensors.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

+ Design in state-of-the-art external foundries; the foundry work will primarily include CMOS & BiCMOS technologies at process nodes 180nm and below.
+ Contribute within a team to collaborate on next level system requirements and emerging ideas as well as executing on assigned work.
+ Be responsible for RFIC/MMIC design characterization and evaluation of new devices and technologies.

This position has the potential ability for remote/virtual work; monthly travel onsite required.


+ Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline (with an emphasis on RF and/or high speed analog/mixed-signal design and tools) plus 3 years of relevant experienced; or a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering plus 8 years of relevant experience.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q level security clearance.


Ideally, we would like your background to include one or more of the following:

+ Experience with designing LNA, mixer, power amplifier, filter, high speed analog, and PLL blocks.
+ Experience with designing direct-digital synthesis (DDS), digital-RF-memory (DRFM), analog-to-digital converters (ADC), digital-to-analog converters (DAC), and digital signal processing (DSP) blocks.
+ Experience in integrated circuit design software like Cadence, Mentor, MWO or ADS.
+ Experience designing in CMOS or BiCMOS (SiGe).
+ Strong interpersonal skills which include teamwork, effective leadership, negotiation, delegation, conflict resolution and the ability to work in a diverse team environment.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, including the development and delivery of presentations, proposals, reports, and documentation.
+ Experience developing complex microsystem solutions including analog, digital, RF, and other technologies.
+ Experience in high-speed RF testing including probe, packaged part, and system testing.
+ Active Department of Energy Q level security clearance.

Department Description:

The Future Fuzing Department, 5352, is the Nation's premier Advanced and Exploratory (A&E) design team for Nuclear Weapon (NW) Fuzes, which includes advanced radar/inertial sensors, weapon controllers, and communication bus architectures. We are responsible for generating new modular fuze concepts, designs, prototypes, tests, and analyses for next generation NW systems. Our technical scope includes RFIC design to fab, digital communications architectures, model-based system engineering, and integration of flight test modules. The department teams extensively with other Sandia organizations including A&E Systems and Components, Centers 5200, 5400, and other 5300 groups, in support of National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), U.S. Navy, and U.S. Air Force customers.

We offer R&D in design and development of Future Fuzing systems from the RF component level circuit design to Radar-Inertial system level design and analysis. The department is not only responsible for future Radar system level design but the development of other sensor technology such as Inertial Measurement Units (IMU), and other fuzing modalities as required. The Department also provides ongoing support to current Life Extension Programs of Record (W88 ALT370, Mk21 AFA, B61-12) through close partnership with our sister Department 5353, Radar Fuzing.
