We are actively seeking a highly motivated Engineer to assist the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in assessing, planning, and analyzing future threats, requirements, architectures and technologies, particularly those in the space domain. As the successful candidate, you will be embedded with the Missile Defense Agency in the National Capital Region (NCR). You will interact daily with senior MDA leadership, represent Sandia National Laboratories and its capabilities to MDA leadership, as well as, present complex technical topics in a simple manner to non-technical government decision makers. As it is a remote assignment, you will be self-motivated and possess a can-do attitude in seeking new opportunities for making technical contributions. A current Top Secret clearance with SCI and experience working with the Department of Defense at senior levels are requirements for this position.


+ You have a bachelors or advanced degree in Engineering, plus a minimum of 10 years directly related experience.
+ You possess knowledge of U.S. Space and Missile Defense capabilities
+ Your background includes experience working with/presenting to DoD senior leaders
+ You possess 5 years experience with space-related technologies (satellites, sensors, rockets, and related technologies)
+ Ability to work remotely from the primary work location in Washington, D.C.
+ Ability to travel as required
+ You have a current DoD TS or DOE Q clearance with ability to obtain an SCI, which typically requires a polygraph


Ideally, your background will also include:

+ Advanced degree in Engineering
+ 10 years experience or more working with space-related technologies
+ 5 or more years experience working directly in DoD development and/or acquisition programs
+ Experience leading and working within integrated multi-disciplinary teams
+ Experience working with advanced technologies, delivering responsive technical solutions in anticipation of Missile Defense or Space mission needs, and facilitating the integration and sustainment of operational capabilities
+ Experience collaborating with UARCs (i.e. Johns Hopkins APL) and FFRDCs (i.e. DOE laboratories, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Aerospace Corporation)
+ Experience developing complex space or missile defense hardware, software, and firmware
+ Systems Engineering, Planning, and Analysis
+ Integrated Test and Evaluation

Department Description:

The Applied Technology Support department, 5413, provides multi-disciplinary embedded technology support at offsite customer locations focusing on innovative weapon systems analyses, design, and mission systems performance for national security mission areas with personnel capable of providing subject matter expertise. The Department supports Strategic Partners needs/requirements by aligning with Sandias capabilities.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
