The WMD Counterterrorism and Incident Response Group (6630) focuses on delivering leading edge knowledge, capabilities and tools in support of national counterterrorism missions and subject matter experts to support national-level WMD responses. The portfolio includes projects throughout the WMD response timeline, ranging from threat mitigation and detection through remediation and attribution. The successful candidate will continue to integrate the department into the National Counterterrorism Incident Response (NCTIR) mission space. They must have the desire to work with the department and group to solidify leadership in applied aerosol sciences with specific focus given to national CBRN threats, incidents/accidents, and response. The manager will also be responsible for maintaining a foundation in applied R&D to further establish the department as recognized subject matter experts for WMD threats and aerosol sciences.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Lead the high performing, highly dedicated team in project execution.
+ Manage hazardous activity level work with chemical, biological (BSL2), and radiological materials in multiple SNL locations and facilities.
+ Maintain and advance test and experimental capabilities in TA3 (Aerosol Complex), TA5 (labs in 6585), TA1 (labs in 823), and KAFM Manzano Plant 1 (Fog Tunnel).
+ Further develop the departments mission to establish WMD Threats and Aerosol Sciences as a key national-level resource for CBR aerosol threat research.
+ Collaborate with internal and external organizations to conduct nationally significant, mission critical research and development.
+ Develop and execute programmatic vision alongside internal and external partners and programs.

Travel will be required for this position to enable consistent engagement with the current and potential customer base within DoD, DTRA, DHS and Sandia.


+ Master's degree (or higher) in Aerosol Science, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or relevant science/engineering field plus 8 years of relevant experience
+ Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams on technical programs/projects
+ Experience working with hazardous materials and activity-level work
+ Experience includes successful proposal development with awarded funding


Ideally, your background would also include:

+ 2 or more years of management experience, including development of high performing technical teams
+ Experience teaming/partnering with internal and external organizations for successful execution and delivery
+ Demonstrated ability in successfully developing a customer base and trust-based relationships with technical relevance
+ Experience with DTRA, DHS, DoD and/or NNSA customers
+ Experience with chemistry, biology, or aerosol sciences
+ Experience with classified projects
+ Experience with WMD emergency response
+ Experience with executing or enabling offsite operations or experiments, to include determining and implementing DOE compliance requirements.
+ Demonstrated experience empowering teams and individuals to innovate and execute
+ Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and leadership skills
+ Ability to obtain and maintain an SCI-level clearance, which may require a polygraph test

Department Description:

Organization 6633, WMD Threats and Aerosol Science, applies chemistry, biology, computer science, engineering, and aerosol science to address real world situations that involve Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), primarily chemical and biological (CB) threats. The Team focuses on countering CB threats and similar dangers by conducting research and development in transport and fate, decontamination and remediation, and detection and interdiction of CB threats, especially aerosolized threats. The Team also uses extensive knowledge of aerosol science, chemistry, and engineering to address broader technological issues, ranging from the development of commercial products, especially decontamination formulations, and the performance of various foams to using aerosols to enhance the performance of security and weapon systems.
