We are seeking exceptional candidates in an R&D, Laboratory Support Technologist role to join a team pursuing world leading research in silicon nanoelectronics for quantum information sciences. The successful candidate will work with a group of technical staff and technologists in a highly dynamic research environment, assisting with our laboratory operations and equipment maintenance needs. The individual will perform duties including R&D equipment troubleshooting, mechanical design and assembly, and routine lab operations, including safety paperwork. In this fast-paced, team-oriented environment, the individual must have excellent problem solving, analytical, teaming, documentation and communication skills.

On any given day you may be called upon to:

+ Troubleshoot and maintain vacuum and cryogenic systems
+ Assist staff with research-related operations
+ Design and assemble apparatus for device testing
+ Assist with semiconductor device packaging and electrical testing
+ Procure and maintain stock of laboratory supplies and equipment
+ Optimize existing laboratory operations
+ Interact with building maintenance personnel
+ Perform work in a safe and compliant manner, seek out subject matter expert advice as needed, and maintain necessary documentation.


+ Bachelor's degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related STEM field; or 10 years of relevant experience in a closely related environment.
+ Willingness to work in a research team environment, including reliance on others for critical-path elements.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance.


Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

+ Experience working with electrical, vacuum or cryogenic systems.
+ Experience with troubleshooting and maintaining lab equipment and tools.
+ Mechanical experience including part design using CAD and installation.
+ Experience with handling semiconductor devices, such as wire bonding and ESD prevention.
+ Ability to develop and maintain required technical work documents.
+ Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask with competing priorities.

Department Description:

The Advanced Silicon Quantum Devices Department of the Advanced Microsystems Group conducts cutting edge research on silicon-MOS-based devices for quantum information sciences applications. Our fundamental expertise lies in silicon (Si) quantum dot and donor-based qubits. Our core capabilities are Si qubit development and measurement, quantum coherent control, cryogenic characterization and measurement, and quantum information science and technology. We leverage our strong relationships within Sandias Microsystems Engineering Sciences and Applications (MESA) foundry facility, the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT), and other internal and external organizations to develop advanced solid-state quantum device technologies.

Our specific areas of expertise include:

+ Si donor and dot qubit development and measurement.
+ Quantum coherent control.
+ Cryogenic characterization and measurement.
+ Quantum information science and technology.
