**Enabling Intelligence Advantage to Ensure Global Peace**

Accelerating nuclear weapons proliferation and the growth of global civilian nuclear power in our uncertain and complex world creates a system of interdependent and rapidly evolving risks which must be detected, understood, and countered\. The US Government must have the capability to confidently anticipate, assess, and address nuclear proliferation risks worldwide through advanced systems and technologies, deep expertise, and situational awareness systems and tools\.

We are seeking Engineers from all research disciplines to contribute to the assessment and reduction of threats to our nation by applying engineering and analytical expertise to technical problems on behalf of the Department of Energy and other Government agencies\. When applying to this requisition, you may be interviewed and/or hired into one of several organizations contributing to the Proliferation Assessments mission in the Threat Intelligence Center:

+ **Tailored Operational Support** conducts research, development, engineering, and assessment for the Nuclear Weapons program and other government sponsors\. Engineers in this group provide research, design, and development of innovative technologies and sensing systems and technical assessments complemented by intelligence\-based analysis\.
+ **System and Technology Assessment** conducts research, development, and engineering in support of the proliferation threat for the US Government and specializes in technology and analysis for the assessment of weapons of mass destruction\. Engineers in this group develop capabilities, technologies, and systems to anticipate, detect, assess, and address the use or misuse of nuclear materials\.
+ **Applied Strategic Technologies** conducts research, development, and engineering in support of the proliferation threat for the US Government, primarily for the Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense\.

You will interact with the national security community to enable decision makers by improving situational awareness and understanding; to reduce uncertainty through establishing measures of effectiveness; to improve confidence in critical systems and data; to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of threat intelligence; and to shape the future of next generation hardware protective technologies\. On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Collaborate with colleagues to understand and define work to be completed\.
+ Brainstorm with technical team members new ideas for system advancement\.
+ Build new multi\-disciplinary teams from across Sandia to address specific or urgent needs\.
+ Serve as a single technical/programmatic interface for multiple levels of customers from various government organizations\.
+ Document customer expectations, define performance requirements, and work with the technical team to assure all expectations and requirements are met\.

Select positions may require periodic travel\.

Required:

+ Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or a related field plus 2 years of relevant work experience; OR a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or a related field \(no experience necessary\); OR a Bachelors degree Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or a related field plus 6 years of relevant work experience
+ Existing Department of Energy Q security clearance OR Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance with the ability to maintain your DOE Q security clearance and obtain/maintain a DOE SCI security clearance, and willingness to take a polygraph exam if requested

Desired:

+ Experience in one or more of the following areas: nuclear weapon and/or delivery system or related technology development; advanced non\-isotropic composite materials in extreme environments; numerical methods to analyze non\-isotropic composite system performance; materials characterization with respect to how aging affects performance characteristics; characterization of material responses in extreme thermal and mechanical environments; simulation of material responses using numerical analysis; modeling and simulation tools in performing engineering and scientific assessments; OR hardware testing, including environmental testing and qualification
+ Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to explain complex ideas clearly and concisely; writing samples are desired
+ Existing DOE SCI security clearance
+ Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or a related field

Department Description:

The position posted is intended to fill multiple positions across the Proliferation Assessments program in the Threat Intelligence Center\.

Sandias Threat Intelligence Center enables the national security missions of the defense and intelligence communities\. We leverage Sandias science, engineering, analytical and technological capabilities and expertise in support of the information technology and proliferation assessment challenges of these communities to reduce threats to our nation\. The Mission of the Proliferation Assessments program is to deliver solutions for the collection and assessment of information regarding, and provide options to address, existential proliferation threats against the United States\. We do this by providing vision and technical leadership, leveraging our access to information/intelligence, and working closely with our government sponsors\. The vision of the Program is to support the US intelligence community and DoD in achieving national non\-proliferation objectives in an increasingly unpredictable world\. Our teams are technically diverse and leverage an extensive network of expertise at the Laboratories to address and assess critical national security issues with a multi\-disciplinary approach\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a SCI security clearance\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance, which requires U\.S\. citizenship and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance\. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment\.
