The W80\-4 System Engineering Departments seek a System Electrical Engineer with an electrical engineering background and advanced technical degree to join the systems engineering team for the W80\-4 nuclear warhead life extension program\. This is a large and growing program in the early phases of development, with a wide range of roles and responsibilities for a talented engineer\. The individual will be involved in systems and component engineering efforts spanning from conceptual\-design studies, to feasibility/cost studies, to full scale engineering design, qualification, and production efforts\. The individual will interact routinely with personnel across multiple SNL organizations, as well as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, the National Nuclear Security Administration \(NNSA\), production agencies throughout the NNSA nuclear security enterprise, and Department of Defense organizations\.

Specific responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

+ Development and verification of system and component requirements\.
+ System electrical design, including system grounding development, system design for electromagnetic compatibility, digital communication and message set development, circuit analysis using SPICE, and component interface specifications, among other things\.
+ System functional architecture development, including system state diagram development\.
+ Integration of components within a system\.
+ Development of qualification plans\.
+ Development and execution of test plans\.
+ System design trade studies\.
+ Control Account Manager\.
+ Prototype testing, including writing and running LabVIEW and TestStand code\.
+ Technical interface with component designers\.
+ Technical interface with production facilities\.
+ Sandia representative on multi\-organizational \(i\.e\. NNSA, DoD, LLNL, SNL\) project teams\.


+ Bachelors and master's degrees, or higher, in Electrical Engineering, or related field;the requirement for a Masters degree or higher can be waived for candidates with a bachelors and equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform independent research and development\.
+ Ability to travel up to 25%;
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U\.S\. DOE Q\-level security clearance\.


+ Strong communication skills, including ability to present to large and diverse audiences;
+ Ability to work well in a team environment;
+ Academic or job experiences in areas such as: serial communication protocols and message passing, electromagnetic radiation \(EMR\) effects on electronics and EMI/C testing, grounding and shielding;
+ Experience using LabVIEW and National Instruments hardware for functional testing;
+ Familiarity with requirements development for components and systems;
+ Experience in Earned Value Management;
+ Familiarity with computer programming languages and scripts \(e\.g\. C\+\+, Python, Perl\);
+ Active security clearance, DOE Q or DOD TS\.

Department Description:

The W80\-4 System Integration Departments are part of the Sandia/California Weapon Systems Engineering Center\. The Weapon Systems Engineering Center is responsible for assuring the safety, reliability and security of U\.S\. nuclear weapons enabling the defense of our nation through our nuclear strategic deterrent\. The W80\-4 System Integration Departments are comprised of a group of dedicated and motivated engineers with advanced technical degrees, primarily in mechanical and electrical engineering\. A major effort for this team is the engineering design and development in support of a Life Extension Program for a nuclear warhead \(W80\-4\)\. The W80\-4 warhead will be deployed on the future U\.S\. Air Force Long Range Standoff \(LRSO\) cruise missile that will replace the existing Air Launched Cruise Missile \(ALCM\)/W80 Warhead weapon system in our nation's nuclear deterrent stockpile\. This is a long term program that will require close collaboration with many different departments within Sandia as well as with organizations outside of Sandia such as LLNL, NNSA, Production Facilities, and the Department of Defense \(DoD\)\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
