Organization, 05322, NPC & Systems Integration, is actively seeking an engineer with experience in inertial sensors and inertial navigation systems. The exceptional candidate is needed for activities related to the validation, testing, characterization, and system integration of Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs). This electrical engineer will be called upon to support multiple programs and products at Sandia utilizing IMUs for inertial navigation, including a large family of commercially available sensors. The successful candidate will also provide analytical tools, tests, and performance evaluations of IMUs as implemented in Inertial Navigation products; and will be expected to maintain market knowledge of the inertial sensor field through testing, research and attendance at conferences. Additionally, they will be involved in the design, test, and delivery of embedded electronics systems that utilize inertial sensors and the fielding of those sensors in inertial navigation systems.

Required:

+ A Masters degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering, controls engineering, or relevant discipline, plus 1 year of experience; or a Bachelor's degree in any of the above, plus 5 years experience
+ Experience with one or more of the following relevant application and mission domains: inertial sensors (gyros and accelerometers), inertial sensor calibration, embedded systems, data acquisition systems, analog electronics, clocks and clock theory, or signal processing
+ The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance

Department Description:

The Navigation, Pointing, and Controls (NPC) group at Sandia supports a diverse set of customers and technologies. The department specializes in inertial navigation using inertial measurement units (IMUs) and Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, ultra-accurate position and velocity measurements for synthetic aperture radars (SAR), gimbal pointing with micro-radian accuracy for airborne and space remote sensing, modeling and simulation of space and earth based navigation and tracking systems, and a variety of controls problems. The department includes personnel with expertise in navigation, guidance, estimation, Kalman filters, controls, embedded systems, inertial sensors including Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), and many others. Some of the work areas include: inertial sensor calibration and characterization, hypersonic vehicle GNC algorithm development, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle GNC algorithm development, GPS-denied navigation, physics-based mission analysis of full system vehicle engagements, missile flight trajectory and attitude reconstruction, satellite constellation performance analysis, and HWIL/SWIL simulators.
