We are seeking a highly motivated R&D S&E, Electrical Engineer to join our team to lead high-visibility, fastpaced engineering and science activities in support of the W78 stockpile weapon system. Major projects for the department include the development of an instrumented joint test assembly, development and execution of studies to improve the technical basis for Annual Assessment, coordination with the Air Force customer to develop and implement qualification strategies to interface the W78 to new DOD equipment, and other day-today activities supporting system sustainment., We collaborate closely with external customers, stakeholders, partners and users, including NNSA, USAF, and domain experts throughout the nuclear weapons complex. We utilize System Engineering tools, methodologies, and processes in support of this assignment.

The job requires occasional travel to meet with customers, stakeholders, and partners.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Lead NW stockpile system sustainment, product development, and upgrades by applying knowledge of your engineering discipline and applying critical thinking.
+ Serve as the electrical lead within the department to support the development of a JTA telemetry system
+ Combine systems engineering principles and engineering discipline to improve understanding of technical basis.
+ Lead and/or participate on complex collaborative projects.
+ Work closely with internal and external customers, stakeholders, and partners.
+ Manage work package agreements, project schedules, and budgets for assigned activities.
+ Understand aspects of system performance through system level ground and flight testing, component
+ level testing, computational methods, simulation, and visualization tools, and component and material evaluation efforts.
+ Understand the nature of system problems; lead anomaly resolution teams through root cause analysis, solution options, and trade space.
+ Prepare white papers, presentations, trade studies, input for the Annual Assessment Report and other documents.
+ Collaborate with the system customer and those responsible for developing, testing, and implementing the system and its elements.
+ Apply analysis and problem-solving techniques to production, stockpile evaluation, and maintenance activities


+ Bachelors degree AND advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a relevant engineering discipline.
+ Two years of directly related experience.


+ Applicable NW experience, including experience with NW systems, components, safety, use control, NW
+ surveillance, and/or advanced nuclear weapons technology.
+ Demonstrated ability to work on challenging engineering problems in a fast-paced collaborative team
+ environment that requires extensive cross-organizational and multi-disciplinary teaming.
+ Experience with project management discipline and tools.
+ Experience with SNL NW Product Realization Process and NNSA and Department of Defense (DoD)
+ NW processes.
+ Experience and knowledge in Systems Engineering.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of complex electrical, electro-mechanical, nuclear, and/or mechanical
+ systems.
+ Experience directing use of physical and/or computational simulations/modeling.
+ Experience interacting with external customers and stakeholders.
+ Excellent communication skills, oral and written clear, concise, and effective.
+ Demonstrated teaming skills.
+ Active DOE Q clearance

Department Description:

The W78 Stockpile System Engineering team supports the nuclear deterrence mission through annual assessment of the systems safety, security, and reliability and providing design agency engineering support for the production agencies. This department partners with organizations across the Laboratory including other system groups, stockpile surveillance, materials research, science and engineering, and computation modeling and simulation to design and execute aging, reliability, and safety studies. In addition, this department partners with external stakeholders, including the National Nuclear Security Administration, Department of Defense and its contractors, Los Alamos National Laboratory, as well as the Kansas City National Security Campus and Pantex production plants, to ensure the continued success of the W78/MK12A mission.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.
