We are seeking a Cybersecurity professional to support sanctions enforcement initiatives to limit and prevent the development of illicit cyber capabilities in selected countries. You will perform work within a technical engineering and science environment working in conjunction with Sandia staff on interdisciplinary projects that involve applying integrated technical discernment, utilizing the scientific method to recognize and formulate problems, to collect data through observation and experimentation, and to formulate and test hypotheses about the uses and deployment of advanced technologies in support of US nonproliferation and nuclear safeguards and security goals.

On any given day, you will be tasked to:

+ Conduct analyses supporting national and regional security programs, conduct gap analysis to discover new illicit cyber activity, support efforts to develop training materials to support funded projects, and conduct research/analysis on countries that are actively using malicious cyber-attacks to finance development of WMDs.
+ Research & analysis on illicit cyber activity that are being developed and prevention methods that can be used to protect financial institutions,
+ Research and apply analysis of international affairs, principles of foreign relations, and scientific and engineering principles in analysis of advanced concepts and technologies for nonproliferation, nuclear security, and international export control regimes.

You should have experience understanding sanctions enforcement, proliferation finance and UN Security Council Resolutions as they pertain to illicit cyber activity and WMD issues internationally. You will gain experience with computer networking principles, cryptography, hashtag algorithms, configuring virtual machines, and developing code for unique applications. You will need strong teaming skills and a high level of cultural awareness, as well as the ability to complete frequent international travel.


+ You have an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Computer Science
+ You possess demonstrated familiarity/knowledge/experience with the following:

- Low-level computer networking principles (OSI model, TCP/IP model)
- Symmetric and asymmetric cryptography as well as hashing algorithms
- Containers and virtual machines
- Using the Linux shell
- Writing Python code
+ You can obtain a DOE Q clearance


We are also looking for the following skills:

+ Cryptocurrency, Distributed Ledger Technology, and Blockchain knowledge
+ Experience using Kali Linux and security related tools (Wireshark, Nmap, NetDiscover, etc)
+ Experience or Knowledge with kernel-level and operating systems architecture
+ Experience with reverse engineering techniques and malware analysis (IDA, IDA Pro, Hex Rays, etc)
+ Experience creating, querying and managing databases
+ System Administration experience
+ Familiarity with Capture-The-Flag (CTF) events and exercises
+ Familiarity with Force-on-Force events and exercises
+ Experience developing training materials for technical and non-technical audiences
+ Experience leading teams
+ Experience working internationally

Department Description:

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
