**Are you passionate about your work and dream of exploring solutions within a dynamic team that solves significant issues for our nation's security?**

We are seeking outstanding professionals with a passion for DevOps and software development to solve some of the most challenging national security problems. You will develop solutions, automate the testing and deployment of these solutions, and rise to the challenge of gaining a breadth of domain expertise to successfully integrate software and hardware components for these complex systems of systems. You will work on high-performing teams to build and deploy the next generation of national security systems. We need a variety of skills in multiple competency areas including data and knowledge management, user interface/user experience, computer infrastructure design, requirements analysis, software development, software assessment, systems integration, system architectures, deployment and maintenance, and systems testing and evaluation. We need motivated people who base their work in the fundamentals of computer science while applying a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles. Today, key pursuits include Integrated Correlation and Display System (ICADS) and Universal Ground NDS Terminal (UGNT) both within the United States Nuclear Detonation Detection System (USNDS) program.

On any given day, you will be called on to:

+ Evolve our existing application infrastructure, promote continuous integration and delivery, and be a champion for automation.
+ Collaborate with high-performing teams in close coordination with internal and external partners to build, test, fix, deploy, and integrate new features and functionality.
+ Support systems-level performance characterization, requirements verification, and system performance reporting through engineering and test activities.
+ Dive into the systems to understand the inner workings, dependencies, and impacts from changes and new functionality.
+ Mentor and guide teammates and promote innovative ideas and out-of-the-box thinking.

Required:

+ You have an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in related STEM discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering); or a Bachelors degree plus 4 or more years relevant experience in lieu of advanced degree
+ Your background includes experience in software design, engineering, and development, including familiarity with modern DevOps practices and tools
+ You can obtain a DOE and SCI clearance

Desired:

+ Experience developing, testing, troubleshooting, and deploying large-scale systems for managing, processing, and disseminating data from disparate data sources
+ Experience migrating from conventional deployments to continuous integration/continuous deployment
+ Experience with the full software development lifecycle using iterative or agile methodologies
+ Experience with automation, orchestration, continuous integration/ continuous delivery including such tools as Puppet, Ansible, Docker, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Nexus, etc.
+ Experience applying Test Driven Development (TDD) principles and automated testing (e.g., Selenium, Cucumber, Gherkin)
+ Experience with common software architectures (e.g., microservices, distributed architecture models, etc.)
+ Experience with container technologies, using tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
+ Experience with Linux server-based system administration. (e.g., account maintenance, data backups, system performance maintenance, installation and configuration of new hardware/software)
+ Experience with object-oriented design and development with languages such as C++ or Java
+ Experience reading, interpreting, writing, modifying, and executing scripts (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) on Windows or Unix systems (e.g., performing tasks like parsing large data files, automating manual tasks, fetching/processing data, etc.)
+ Experience in developing with open-source or COTS-based messaging, integration, data store and application server platforms
+ Skill in evaluating business needs and software solutions to justify decisions for software solution acquisition, including build versus buy options
+ Experience with databases and tools necessary to process, store, and distribute data (e.g., MongoDB, SQL, etc.)
+ Experience with virtual machines and cloud technologies (e.g., Microsoft Hyper-V, VMWare vSphere, Open Stack, AWS, Azure, etc.)
+ Knowledge of computer networking fundamentals (e.g., networks devices, ports/protocols, addressing, routing, network access, identity, and access management, and authentication)
+ Knowledge of secure configuration management techniques (e.g., STIGs) and secure software development and deployment practices
+ Experience in fixing failed software or system components (e.g., servers, processes, etc.) and identifying possible causes for system performance degradation or availability and initiating actions to mitigate this degradation
+ Skill in identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, availability, capacity, or configuration problems relative to the goals of the system
+ Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify and research creative solutions for which information is incomplete or for which no precedent exists to meet customers needs
+ Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, interdisciplinary and dynamic team environment, seeking continuous consultation with other analysts and experts to demonstrate technical expertise
+ Experience with large, multi-organizational, multi-discipline projects with emphasis on satellite or other aerospace systems
+ Ability to communicate complex information, concepts, or ideas in a confident and well-organized manner through verbal, written, and/or visual means
+ Ability to travel on occasion
+ Active DOE clearance

Department Description:

The End-to-End System Engineering Department focuses on engineering successful large-complex systems. Its core skillsets encompass requirements definition & development; technical system engineering; hardware/software/security architectures; agile frameworks; and delivery of products to site. We represent and communicate the results of the team's engineering efforts - analysis, design, and delivered product - to project and program customers. Our strengths are in technical leadership and innovation, understanding of the relevant scientific and mission domains, and experience with large-scale software engineering and design.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
