We are seeking a motivated R&D Computer Science professional to join a team developing groundbreaking data analytics, visualization, and AI driven feedback mechanisms for extreme-scale High Performance Computing (HPC) operations. The team authors the open-source, R&D 100 Award winning Lightweight Distributed Metric Service (LDMS) which is used at the largest advanced modeling and simulation centers across the world. Your work will improve the efficiency of vitally important experimental research in support of both our national defense and broader scientific discoveries.

## Day-to-day activities will include:

+ Conceiving new ways to process, analyze, and visualize resource utilization and performance data from supercomputer systems and their applications
+ Developing and deploying innovative analysis techniques to identify bottlenecks of application performance
+ Advancing our data analysis and feedback infrastructure which enables data-driven operations and efficient HPC utilization
+ Collaborating with computing vendors and cutting edge HPC partners to understand how the latest architectural advances affect performance
+ Contributing to the teams research results and associated publications and presentations at peer-reviewed conferences


+ PhD in relevant STEM field. We will consider candidates expecting to attain their degree by late summer 2021, to start afterwards.
+ 5 years of experience programming in C, C++, and/or Python, which may have been within the PhD
+ Experience programming in Unix/Linux environments
+ Experience using and/or developing statistical data analysis and/or machine learning techniques
+ Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q Level clearance


+ Strong desire to acquire and expand HPC skills
+ Experience developing code with consideration of resilience, memory, scalability, and CPU footprint
+ Experience carrying out performance analysis studies of computing systems and software
+ Experience utilizing or analyzing advanced HPC system architectures (e.g. GPUs, low latency networks such as Infiniband, vector processors, or shared memory architectures)
+ Experience building and running parallel applications
+ Experience developing codes in a multi-developer, open-source software environment, including static code analysis and regression testing
+ Experience developing in Jupyter Notebooks and using python analytics packages

Department Description:

The High Performance Computing (HPC) Development Department develops innovative solutions for the operation and efficient utilization of leading and next-generation computing systems across the world. Our Heterogeneous Advanced Architecture Testbeds are used to evaluate advanced processors and accelerators for next generation platforms. Our Advanced Technology Systems support R&D necessary for extreme-scale application runs. These in-house systems enable our HPC Operational Analytics team to develop monitoring and analysis capabilities for advanced and diverse computing architectures.

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
