We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated R&D S&E, Computer Science to join our team.

Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model Based Design (MBD) for a Digital Twin has become a critical focus for US Navy (USN) nuclear and conventional weapon programs, the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, and the Department of Defenses Digital Engineering Strategy. We are expanding our core team of MBSE modelers to support existing and future programs, such as the W80-4 warhead development, W87-1 warhead, and other NNSA supported nuclear deterrence programs. This team is developing new concepts of integrated models to allow for faster design engineering approaches and thus leading to virtual design lifecycles instead of the design-build-test approach of legacy programs.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Develop and support the future technical computing environment to support digital engineering models for NW systems and components, as well as other models developed such as kinematics, electrical circuit modeling, finite element, heat transfer, and various others.
+ Develop and support the future technical computing integration infrastructure of virtual design engineering models.
+ Have experience and understanding of semantic ontologies, natural language processing, machine learning, enterprise integration patterns, service oriented architectures, and REST APIs
+ Be familiar with model tools and techniques as performed for the virtual design of NW system and component behavior, as well as Model-Based Systems Engineering concepts and SysML.
+ Be familiar with the use of physical and computational simulation, analysis, and evaluation as inherent activities of verification
+ Develop visualizations for Data Science and Analytics
+ Develop Hardware-in-the-Loop concepts for NW components
+ Develop or support the technical solution to SysML models interoperability for various weapon systems and components including, but not limited to the W80-4, Electronic Neutron Generators, Mk21 Fuse, and the W78 replacement
+ Conduct technical review sessions with peers and relevant SME's to improve model technology support and develop associated requirements.


+ Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering plus 5 years relevant experience; or an Advanced Degree (Masters or PhD) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering plus two years' relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
+ 3 years of full lifecycle software development experience using Java
+ 2 years of experience development web applications using Java Enterprise Edition and JavaScript frameworks such as JQuery, AngularJS, Angular, Meteor or React
+ 2 years using ESB technologies such as Mule, Sonic, Apache Camel, etc.


+ Strong collaboration and teaming skills
+ Degree(s) in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics
+ Experience in object-oriented design and development
+ Experience with modeling in various computational tools such as MatLab, Simulink, or Python
+ Experience with virtual engineering design (taking an idea from concept through demonstration or delivery)
+ Familiarity with requirements engineering concepts including elicitation, analysis, specification, and management
+ Familiarity with NW Product Realization Teams, 6.X Product Realization process or Product Definition system (PRIME/IMS)
+ Experience with Enterprise Integration Patterns and Apache Camel or Spring Integration
+ Development experience with Java/JEE backends using Spring/Hibernate
+ Development experience with RESTful web services
+ Exposure to object, canonical, and ontological modeling
+ Experience with SysML and System Engineering modeling tools such as MagicDraw, SparxEA, or Genesys
+ Experience and desire to working on agile teams
+ Active US DOE L or Q clearance

Department Description:

The MBSE department has responsibility to provide system-level leadership for the advanced modeling and systems engineering activities necessary to support current and upcoming nuclear weapon needs. The department supports integration of these approaches into the engineering infrastructure, through collaborative efforts with our Sandia partners, including 2241 (Advanced and Exploratory NM), 8713 (Advanced and Exploratory Systems CA), and the many NW systems and component organizations.
